This close to release, and still no big announcements yet?

We're really close to the Japanese release of Smash 3DS, yet they still don't have any major announcements for it planned, like a Direct or whatever. But the problem with Nintendo Direct is that they're always announced just a day or two before they begin, so we won't know when it will come up.

It would be bad for both us and Nintendo if they don't have another Smash Direct before 9/13. There's no way that these 17 remaining screenshots are our only source of info until then. There are still a lot more things about these games that we don't know about yet either. All that should be covered in this Direct too.

Well.... I don't really hope that Sakurai is going to spoil a lot of things before the 3ds version releases in Japan, I hope they have a small direct. The world still needs to keep the hype going.

Probably something like a direct or newcomer reveal.

They might be trying to build hype, suspense, or even surprise us. As an example, when vanilla MvC3 dropped Phoenix wasn't announced until the week before or week of the games release IIRC. Everyone got super stoked that she was in but then wound up hating her because she was too OP lol.

There are usually (general) Nintendo Directs each two months, so it is weird there isn't one announced for August yet. There are still ten days left in the month, though, so we shall wait. It actually makes sense for Nintendo to hold the direct as much as possible. As for big announcements, I am still expecting the biggest announcement possible to be in the next Nintendo Direct.

If he would just confirm Ice Climbers it would both build hype and disclaim the leak that's been going around. It would be brilliant and would kill the leak without killing the hype.

I'm not entirely myself sure the leak is wrong.
Yet this is not the leak thread.

However, I do not think that means IC's are truly gone, that it is all the characters, or that our roster is even under 60.

Yet Sakurai is aware of what goes on. He knows this leak is out, and knew that leaks would be out. He knew the roster would likely leak at this time, too. his is why I am so certain that the full roster would be out now, if he wanted to be the one to tell us.
...unless he has DLC to specifically make sure he gets to tell us later.

That said, he could confirm IC's (or whomever is launch DLC) just to throw us off about the leak i he wanted, sure.
He will do what he wants. He loves this sadistic ride.

I'm really hoping for something next week. I just want some more info before we get spoiled by the Japanese release. As I said before I'd rather hear about the roster/stages/modes from Sakurai over random people.

But they are from the same series and one of them is basically a clone. I doubt we'd get 2 or more unique newcomers in 1 video (especially newcomers from different series). We'll have to wait and see though. I hope Sakurai is cooking up something good. I don't want to get spoiled by the Japanese release, so hopefully people do a good job with spoilers otherwise I want all the trailers revealed by Sakurai before release. I would much rather have characters revealed by Sakurai rather than people who bought the game.

There are over 3 weeks left to go until the Japanese 3DS version comes out.

As for whether we can expect any big announcements, my guess is that they would probably have something probably a week before the game comes out.

Honestly, I'm not expecting a second Smash Bros. Direct, but of course, a normal Direct could be announced instead. It'd probably be what @ dezeray112 said.
