There's problems with two versions of this game getting the same DLC.

Will we have to buy the same DLC on both platforms? Will there be some kind of cross platform puchase feature implemented? Will buying the DLC on one console give you a discount on the other? Will Nintendo opt for totally different DLC for both versions?

I'm interested in seeing how DLC for this game will be handled if we get it. A lot of us are getting both versions, and surely we all want our DLC to be on both of our Smash games. What do you guys think? I've never seen this situation mentioned anywhere before.

I guess if you can link games then yeah can prolly sync data for some auto-unlocks/1 time free download.

Kinda like how back int he day you could get nice goodies in one game, for having a friend game/same company game on your memory card.

It should work for both versions. Nintendo would be stupid and greedy to not allow cross-buy character dlc. STAGE DLC on the other hand is a different story. If they design a stage that can't work on the 3ds version, then by all means they should release it exclusively for Wii U.

That's what I was worried about too. I suppose they could use the 3DS to Wii U connectivity to sync both versions?
Or I think Nintendo does it so that when you buy one version, you get a code for the other one?
I dunno... Hopefully they get it fixed before they roll out DLC. I can wait.

Nintendo doesn't really have any precedent for this, so we'll just have to hope they do it the friendly way instead of the normal way.

If you buy a Virtual Console game on the 3DS, you have to buy it again on the Wii U, even if you've linked accounts. I think it's at a reduced price, but that's still a bit ridiculous.

Hopefully they won't do the same for Smash. I would assume they wouldn't, but I dunno.

I don't think Nintendo are THAT bad to make such a move. I just hope there actually is DLC in this game. Wan't my precious Wolf back, and I want Isaac =P

This is the thing that has me worried.

I'll gladly get some DLC as long as it's meaningful, but there's no way I'll be buying the same content twice just to have it available on both systems.

I never thought about this problem myself. I suppose I thought that the system link would just take care of everything; nevertheless, it will be interesting to see Nintendo's approach. Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warrior's DLC give me hope, at the very least, that Nintendo will be consumer friendly.

What probably happens is that you can buy it on one version and then you link the 3ds and wii u and it transfers the dlc. It's just a guess but it's always possible.

NNID is now shared between 3DS and WiiU. This is trivial.

I did think of this but.... does that mean you can transfer games/dlc? @_@

CAUSE IF I GET THAT NEW 3DS MY ESHOP STUFF BETTER BE GOOD TO GO...

ON TO THE NEW 3DS.

Maybe if we get unified accounts we could get cross buy DLC.

Not really. The whole system is kinda messed up.

Purchases are still locked to your console, not the account.
Discounts can be cross platform.
Cross platform game purchases don't work in certain regions, and so far have only been one way. For example, you can buy a 3DS game and get the Wii U version, but not the other way around.
The 3DS and Wii U share a wallet, and you can vieww merchandise from either console's eShop. Purchases are not possible though. Trying to view your 3DS download history on the Wii U also is not possible.

The list goes on and on, but the point I'm trying to make is that this is a serious concern.

Maybe if we get unified accounts we could get cross buy DLC.
The accounts are actually unified, but as stated above, Nintendo didn't really think about the eShop all the way through.

Won't be there unless you do a system transfer.

HHHMMMmm...... so

Why would purchasing a second update be needed? Unless my dumb white ass is incorrect ...... Is there not currently a feature that allows the transfer of characters both to and from the Wii U and the 3DS?

And if there is indeed a feature that allows seamless transferring of characters, profiles, custom moves, etc back and forth..... why the hell would you need to purchase the same thing twice?

If I am totally and completely incorrect in reference to the "feature" and how it works, just laugh at my moronic assumption and continue your little chat about double purchasing identical DLC
