There is something good that comes with Brawl's change...

Please note that the title is not meant to indicate that I don't like the change of pace/balance. I enjoy it, it'll bring something new to the table. Right now it has reached ~64 levels in terms of pace...balance we can't be sure yet.

Anyways...the great thing about this pace/balance change?

CHARACTER DECISIONS.

Many times people pick a character solely because they see their potential in combo vids (i.e. Falco v_v) or they feel that it's the way to win. Brawl is supposed to be about "everybody having a shot at the summit"...that's not a very realistic statement. Not everyone has the potential to reach the summit, but now there are so many more routes to get there. This game is beautiful for that reason - it makes people consider all the facets of a character, their liking of that character and the other choices that they have.

I feel that this is one of the best things that Brawl has brought to us - even though there might be some preference to certain characters later, every time we watch a video we can put our support behind any character because it is not entirely unrealistic to do so.

The change of pace brings me to another point...combo videos. I don't really mind these that much, but the problem is that people look at them often times for the development of their game. I might not be correct on this point...but combo videos are now much harder to make because of the new style of gameplay. CVs were very fast paced and nice to look at often, but now the pace will make that quite impossible. With the limiters placed on combo videos people are now forced to watch matches and consider all aspects of advantage/disadvantage to a character after watching a match.

This is my opinion...please express your thoughts in this thread in a respectful manner towards others. I'm looking for a great discussion here - this community is amazing, and I hope I'll see you all online!

It's not necessarily disproving the existence of tiers for a little while; rather it makes the system a bit weaker. I'm not saying that character disadvantages will not exist; rather that other characters possess equal advantages to their disadvantage. In tournaments, Bowser will probably suck until we get the lag canceling down - there's an example of something this balance can't change; Bowser is not suited for 1v1 Brawls without the lag-cancel buff. But, in tournaments, we can cheer for Olimar with a passion, knowing that he might have a good chance at winning despite any tier system going against him.

Why do people around here still think there is lag-canceling in Brawl? :dizzy: Good grief.
