The YYG: Too much attention?

Now I know the awesome power of the yo-yo glitch. I once had it down and used it quite often. Then I was told that it was unusable in tournament play. This caused my strategy to take a hit. I haven't used the glitch since.

Basically, what I'm asking is, are we becoming too dependent on the wonders of the yo-yo glitch? If we can't use it in tournaments, shouldn't we just let it be as a nifty trick? It's been awhile since I've been tournament ready. Has the glitch been accepted in tournies? If not shouldn't the focus go more towards the aerials, thunders, and ground game of Ness, as opposed to the jackets and tricky glitches?

(By the way, I'm not dissing the glitch. Mad props to those who founded and perfected it)

I haven't heard anything about it being outlawed from tournies. Could you cite an example please?

It´s perfectly legal to use it.... however, good luck actually pulling it off against even decendly good players.

Yeah, its allowed, but hard to use.

But it doesn't mean you should just ignore it completely. It's still good for etting 25% on your foe or catching them completely off guard with a deathlline move. If you have an attack that you want to lag punish, like a missed long range grab, you can go ahead an attempt a YYG. But why would you want to use it instead of a bat? Well, enemies almost never see it coming, and if you get a jacket, you can try to use a special yo-yo allowing you to YYG again which would probably be better than just one bat. Also, if you ever get a chance to play on green greens, you can YYG to your hearts desire.

I think the YYG is good, but I'm not saying it's absolutley necessary for play.

Ah I see, like I said, it's been awhile since I've even used it because back when it was new, everyone I talked to said it was a no-go at the tournies. Since it's legit now, that's awesome.

However, in practicality, it seems like working combos out would be a better thing to focus on. Now that I know it's tournament legal though... maybe I'll have to get back to perfecting it.

Still I would like to see a little more focus on combos, aerials, mind games, etc. because it seems like they would be a lot more useful in serious competetition than the YYG.

it definitely should NOT be ignored as part of Ness' game.

...the only thing is is that IMO it is just about the LAST thing a Ness player should try to master...and I think many people have gotten into to the YYG too early in their development as Ness players...this, of course, will become less and less of a problem for each individual as time goes on(assuming they continue to play ness)

I'm with Simna. It's important to learn, but only after you know your Ness. You're exactly right in your thinking, Killjoy, get down all the speed, techs, combos, and cool plans you can first, then the yyg. Or, always counter-pick green-greens. Then you just run around like a psycho ball of destruction!

lol i havent gone to green greens in a long time....i remember back at the SDSU Triweekly tournament i went to i teamed with CAOTIC(Peach) and one match our opponents counterpicked green greens against us....i was of course doing Falco's taunt in my head when this happened(heh)...but in short we won the match(i did YYGs and things)

what i DIDN'T realize at the time was that Ken was watching that match...and 2 matches later i had to fight Ken and his partner(i believe it was Panda...their team name was The REAL Sanchez)...when it came time to ban stages both Ken and Panda said at the same time "Green Greens" and then Ken said to us "You can't dirty sanchez the real sanchez"

CAOTIC and I lost that match and went to the losers bracket. I was still, however, very proud of myself.^_^

How badly did you lose simna?

And I agree with Simna, only once you master everything else about Ness, if you manage to do it before Brawl comes out, then yes start to practice the yyg.

Yo yo glitch is wayy over rated....i can only think of very few situations where it can be used...and if you see an opening to do the glich...why not do something else like attack or heal (in team battles)...sage....

I'd probably write a two page essay on why it shouldn't be completely ignored, but I'm tired now.

seeing as how green greens isn't the only tournament legal stage with destructible hitboxes, it is still useful to an extremely liberal extent.

if SYYG is ever understood to a science, a smart Ness player besides myself would test whether ness can YYG mute city cars, yoshi pipes blocks, or the various parts of brinstar, and then always use the controller slot that put him closest to those destructible hitboxes at the start of the match.

ehh, whatever that's worth.
