The Worst Matchup Ever

So I've been playing a lot on gamebattles, and I manage to bump myself up to level 8, beating a lot of skilled campers and gay Marths on the way up, and I think I'm onto something about how Lucas loses battles. I think a perfectly played Lucas can beat any medium-speed or slower character, from Ganondorf to Bowser to Marth to R.O.B. to DeDeDe. If you use your damage attacks to start and land KO moves at reasonable percents then I think you win a large percentage of the time.

The biggest hole in Lucas' game is someone who can quickly close a medium gap with a good priority attack and stay safe from punishment, because his high priority attacks don't come out fast enough to defend himself, and his jab and aerials aren't high priority enough to clank or beat it out. Do you see where I'm going with this?

I'll cut the crap: Snake is mega gay. That dash attack cancel up-smash thing is ridiculous, unreasonably fast and unbeatoutable and unpunishable. I can deal with the broken F-tilt, the extreme explosive zoning, the camping, the powerful but laggy aerials, I can figure out how to beat all that, but when you take a good character, glitch him and give him a safe uber priority rushdown it just breaks down my gameplan. I don't know how to fight it, and I need help guys.

We all need help.

Post up your snake gameplan, and if anyone says there's nothing you can do, you shall be forever exiled from the Lucas forums.

It's rough but i dunno about his worst matchup. Hell, it could be his worst matchup but its nowhere near as hopeless as you make it seem, I think :)

Well, first of all, if you wanna get past the dash attack up smash, stand somewhat near the ledge. One of the biggest issues with that dashing is that after you get hit, he's really far away and out of punishing range. If you're near a ledge and he dash attacks through you, he'll stop at the ledge when he uses/starts charging up smash. If you blocked the dash attack, its a free bat, grab, or anything you feel like using.

If he figures that out, its one less thing you have to worry about because he won't be spamming that when you're near the ledge. Next, invisible hitboxes. His tilts are gay. Very. Gay. If you block his forward tilt, you don't really have anything guaranteed, his up tilt kills you really early. It's all pretty silly. To get past this, I attack him first. If he's playing defense, there's alot less for you to worry about. Trust me, you're a character that can kill him at VERY reasonable percents, he won't be going for silly trades if you mindgame the right setups.

Learn how he plays and shut down the things that are troubling you, the dash attacks, the tilts, whatev. Your forward tilt is going to be a good range check as always but mix it up obviously.

Oh and don't fight on Lylat. You won't see the C4 he drops when he's in a bubble. Bad things will happen. You also won't be able to see his down smash on smashville. It blends in with the carpet. Hope this helped.

i don't have too much experience against snake, but i did find a video a while back.

i don't know how better snake players would handle that situation and i haven't gotten a chance to try it with lucas but looks like it would pretty much murder him. i believe pk fire spamming would work well and i know for a fact that the stick can reflect his controllable missile thingy. again i don't have much experience with snake so my opinion could well be wrong.

The recovery grab thing isn't going to help you much against a decent snake player. Most of them know about this and will use their recovery from further away from the stage to avoid it.

most snakes recover very high and very early to prevent things like that. you will never see a good snake trying to sweetspot like that. on top of that, i have yet to grab his cypher with the rope snake. not saying its not possible but i haven't been able to do it.

Just ask!
Ugh, I know what you mean.
I`m so glad I`m not the only one experiencing some difficulties against Snake players.

isnt snakes recovery gimpable somehow? but yes try the bat more. i even reflected his missile once when i taunt-tripped, so that character is imbued with a little bit of randomness.

Hmm. As a Snake player, I can tell you this a few things.
Never use PK Thunder on the ground under any circumstances. If you are close, Snake ges a free fsmash, which can KO you at 50% or under if he gets the chance to charge it. Seriously.
If you are far away, he can throw a cooked grenade at you. This may not sound like trouble, but a cooked grenade can cut off the PK thunder and blow you up.

Galeon is correct about how to counter the dash attack up smash.

It's better to KO Snake sideways because Snake has a strong resistance to vertical knockback(second only to Dedede).

One more thing. I strongly advise against playing a Defensive Snake(or any defensive character) on HaneBow.

Snake has infinite recovery. He can up-b, fly up, then drop a c4, immediately detonate it, then use up-b again. He can recover from any situation (at the cost of taking damage). I'd probably make heavy use of PKT here. Snake is a large target.

In the tournament I'm going to compete in, the winners are always Snake users. Any discussion on this thread is really useful for me.

As for countering Snake's mortar slide, can any of Lucas's attacks out prioritize it? Maybe f-tilt, n-air, or d-smash? Or the ropesnake grab?
