What do you think? The un-named protagonist from the classic NES brawler, Urban Champion. Here's a basic rundown of the game, if you don't know it:

Urban Champion is a fighting game produced by Nintendo in 1985. The purpose of the game is to knock the other player into a sewer manhole. There is a time limit, and the player has a set limit of stamina, both of which are represented by numbers. The player has two types of attacks: a light punch and a heavy punch. The light punch doesn't push your opponent as far as the heavy punch, but it is harder to block. The heavy punch sends your opponent reeling backwards, but can be blocked easily and takes a bit longer to pull off. For every punch you throw, you lose 1 stamina. Flower pots are occasionally dropped from windows, which, if it hits a person, they will be dazed and will lose 5 stamina. In addition, a police car will pass by the fighting every 30 seconds which causes the players to return to their starting positions.

I think that he could potentially be a very interesting character. So far, Smash has yet to have a character who deals specifically in hand to hand combat. I imagine him to be a close range fighter with very good strength.

Yeah, I know he probably won't make it. I just thought it might be fun to discuss.

Great minds think alike :) I too was thinking of a thread for the unnamed Urban Champion, indeed one of the NES's best simplistic-yet-fun games evah!

I support Urban Champion

Visiting from above.
So it's like River City Ransom, except no one's ever heard of it?

That sounds like a wonderful and likely idea.

Actually, it's quite different from River City Ransom, and ANYBODY who plays WarioWare or had the e-Reader would know of Urban Champion, but they wouldn't know it. They would play a minigame version of it in 9Volts minigames, but never know what it was (confusing, I know)

Before Urban Champion, there was this Game & Watch title called Boxing, which they later rereleased it as Punch-Out!! to help Mr. Dream's Punch-Out!! sell well.

Also, more recently, one of the levels in Standard mode in Tetris DS is themed around Urban Champion.

And McFox, I realize that he's highly unlikely. I just thought it would make for some nice discussion.

If they're full-hearted Nintendo c haracters, they have at least 1%, which is something most third party characters can only dream of.

Setting you up the bomb.
Well I gotta give you some cred for suggesting this retro Nintendo character, but as far as prority is concerned, I think he ranks somewhere in the low-moderate range. His chances really depend on Sakurai-san priority regarding the representation of classic franchises.

You know, I heard that the Urban Champion was one of the "NES/Famicom" character who were considered for SSBM, along with Bubbles from Clu Clu Land, the Excitebiker from Excitebike, the Balloon Fighter from Balloon Fight, and of course, the Ice Climbers. I read the Urban Champion wasn't chosen because he didn't appear to have any special moves aside from standard punches, so he didn't make it.

But the Urban Fighter would be a neat addition, if they could think up some special moves...

Urban Champion would be a good AT, like Excite bike... Not sure about a PC... It would be hard to make a moveset based around punching people into manholes.

Yeah, that'd be perfect! And the Urban Champion can be pixelized, like the Excitebiker and Lakitu!
