So this obviously only applies to characters such as Peach, Link and Young Link but recently I've noticed a incredible increase in the level of team play in melee, heck I've seen that teams Grand Finals that people are more excited for then the singles GF but I digress. Anyway I've noticed that items such as the turnip and bombs(though this might be due the fact that you don't see many links in general) are severely underutilized in teams. I mean the possibilities such as passing the turnip or bombs off to teammates and extending combos etc.

I think that this would be a good step forward in the meta game, but A bad factor in conditioning. You would have to tell your friend when you were going to throw a stitch face to him or something. And It might be a little hard to grab without warning. And if you set up a way of saying "Im gonna throw an Item" E.X. tripple Wave dash into WaveLand, opponents might catch on to that :p but what do I know.

Well I mean not to sound rude but I pride myself in my knowledge of what you can do with items. It wouldn't be as simple as that. Because since you can toss or Z-drop items well in the air you can mix up your options but you're giving your teamate a item which then they can do whatever they please with. You could pass it your teamate for a safe edge guard. You could keep passing it between the two of you so your opponents dont know when its coming, etc. I think it would open up a whole new range of combos for characters. I mean items haven't been used by most people since the very early melee days. Only Peach, Link and Young Link mains really have a solid grasp with them. We don't know what new options open up when other character have consistent access to a item. Plus it allows you to mix up your support and Offensive roles a bit since you can give your aggressor a good support tool. Just my 2 cents.

Yea but the amount of time and practice to get to a level of synergy with your teammate would be wasted when there are exponentially better and easier options to work on....such as teammate grab > Peach D-smashes 2 times in a row for an easy 70-100 damage, or just having Jugglypuff on your team and getting lag free rests, team grab combo rests, super easy combos, and the deepest recovery saves. You keep playing with items and passing them to each other you are going to get wrecked by any good team who is just focusing on killing and combo-ing you.

Not to mention the Links are still a very mediocre characters and in teams there are far better choices even without items.

Also consider if the other team is just as good if not better at catching/powershielding/throwing items, all of a sudden that becomes something to be used against you.

Alright I'll conceded you raise several interesting points but here's my view. Melee and a whole is growing exponentially but more importantly teams is getting popular as well. Teams are getting better and better and only getting more popular. Now obviously I'm not suggesting that teams will dwarf singles or anything but the team dynamic is only becoming more and more appealing. Teams are training much more intensely then previously and for example 2 Gods don't just instantly win Doubles anymore. There's a lot of dedicated teams out there so I could see them evolving the the meta even more by using items. It adds more depth to the game when you're constantly dealing with this almost BioShock esque teams play.
