February 8, 2009. A seemingly average day in MYM. I posted my third and final moveset, Eddie the Head from Iron Maiden, for the MYM3, which would be ending in a few weeks. Shortly after the set was posted, I announced that due to a lack of free time, I would be leaving moveset-making. Of course, this didn't last long, since I soon announced that I had more movesets in the works. I wouldn't be leaving all of my friend in MYM.
Fast foward five months. MYM5 has ended. The winners have been announced. The leaders of the next contest are being discussed. And I still haven't posted a moveset.
Let me get you up to speed. If you're a MYMer, you can skip the following paragraph:
Make Your Move, or MYM, for short, is a contest held on SWF. Although it was once a GBD mainstay, it has since been moved to the Smash Projects room. The object of MYM, as explained by the Infinite Sakurai Theorem, is to make a complete Smash Bros. moveset for anyone you want. You could probably get away with a set for the snail you stepped on today, though it would have to be pretty **** good. MYM has been held since 2008, and has had five threads holding the contest's contents, not counting the various Story Modes and Review threads in the User Blogs.
MYM has enjoyed many great moveset makers, movesets, and even memes. With a few exceptions ("I hope you all get ***** and die."), everyone in MYM is friends with each other. The movesets have been extreemely varied, from Weird Al to Dracula to even a rock. We've even had joint sets, when MYMers work together to made movesets.
Unfortunately, even with all the great times we've had, we lose members rather frequently. In some cases, MYMers return, such as TWILTY, who has returned after disappearing earlier in MYM5. In others, people remain unseen to this day. Besides MYM1 and 2 leaders Fawriel and GreatClayMonkey, the bieggest loss we've had is the leaving of Iron Thorn, who hasn't been heard from since her final post towards the beginning of MYM4. The most recent loss is Spadefox, who stormed out after an argument over the harshness of his criticisms.
Which brings me to the point of my post. If you were in the Chat at the time, you may have heard this, but the rest of you are probably learning now:
I will be abandoning moveset making.
Granted, I have one more set in the works, but it's been pretty hard to find time to work on it.For some of it, I have no choice: Summer school is the main culprit. For others, it's out of finding new things to play: I've been playing Rock Band and TF2 like crazy these days.
Fortunately, it's better than during the school year, during which time I've canceled a number of sets. Yosemite Sam? Blown into a million pieces. The Cheat? Kicked. The Fathers of Heavy Metal? They had another thing comin'. Problem Sleuth? Tree stump. 'Nuff said.
Also, it's been harder to bear some of the losses. Spade's leaving really got me into thinking whether it was time to go.
But the final straw broke my back today.
Most of the MYMers were in the Chat, as usual. We were discussing the results of the recently-ended MYM5. Eventually, the topic somehow shifted to annoying members of MYM, and Khold accused me of only talking about "Stupid rock bands" and making "Unfunny jokes." I honestly agreed all of this (minus the "stupid rock bands" part, The Who aren't stupid). This comment finally broke my will to stay in MYM, and a few minutes later, I announced that I was leaving.
I do have one more set in the works, that I will post towards the beginning of MYM6. All I'll say about it is that it's involved in an internet meme. Nothing more.
In conclusion, I have a few things to say to my fellow MYMers. Stay gold, take your vitamins, and always, always live by Sundance's undying words:
