Prior to the release of SSB4 & SSBU, What was the SSB Fanbase and Community like in the 2000s?

Between 2000 & 2010, were they as annoying as they are today?

I wasn't around during Melee and Brawl speculation, but from what I can tell scrolling through the archives, it was honestly better or worse depending how you look at it.

Moderazation seemed to be much weaker back then as there was as many people on the modding team plus certain regulations and rules not being set up yet on the site as well as the site not being anywhere as big as it is now I assume. So trolls could more easily here mess around here back then.

People' expectations were either high in the sky or limited to mostly Nintendo characters since before Melee we had no 3rd parties and in Brawl we only got Snake and Sonic even though a lot of people were expecting characters like Mega Man, Bomberman, Pac-Man, Geno, ect to join after seeing Snake at E3 2006.

I would say fans were able to be more chaotic back then with how they talked to people, but things seemed more balanced and favorable amongst the community between each other compared to now I guess. Rules and moderazation got stronger and had a tighter grip on this site as time moved forward follwing Smash 4 and Ultimate speculation, but fans have gotten greeder over time due to all the amazing 3rd party characters we have gotten over the years as well as highly requested characters as well.

So, more or less the same?

I do remember some of the stuff regarding SSB in the mid 2000's.
On a (now defunct) GameSpy Message Board, there was a thread for wanting potential fighters for "Smash 3," before it was know as Brawl, and one of them was asking for Bart Simpson!

I laughed!
