On Aug. 5th, EB Games (GameStop) in Canada finally released the SKU number to pre-order the Prima game guide to Smash 3DS, and I couldn't be happier to pre-order that, along with the game, when the Trade More, Get More promotion happened at the same time. Great timing!
What are your thoughts regarding the guide? Are any of you thinking of using it? And for what purposes? Answer below!
Note that I didn't include unlockables, or the fighters directly, in the survey below. All of us would answer those, anyway.
Also, if you're answering with NOT getting the guide (like most of you have, already), don't bother posting.
And finally, I'm well aware of the Internet bringing digital, free strategy of the game, with the fact that any magazine or guide is becoming a lost art. The thing is, there are SO MANY different forms of "official" coverage on the game, and so many different interpretations of "this aspect of coverage" over "that", due to personal bias, that finding a comprehensive, complete form of it, can be very difficult. My personal take on it is this: to have an official, authenticated, all-in-one source that I can go to, without the worry of file deletion, constant updating, or falsifying information. I'm not old-school, I'm just choosing a safe, reliable, and complete source, straight from Nintendo.

I am not getting it. Any content in the guide will eventually be in the interwebz anyway.

I would only read it at Grocery stores that carry it while waiting for food orders to be filled out.

I'd have used it for customizations and whatnot back in the day, but these days I just find everything online.

People buy guides? I always just look it up on the internet. I would use it for stage unlocks.

In this day and age, the only time I will ever buy a guide is if it has exclusive artwork.

The only time I ever buy a guide is if it comes with some kind of bonus. The Pokemon X and Y and Skyward Sword guides came with cool map posters, so I ended up getting them. So if they announce some kind of cool bonus for buying the guide I might pick it up. Assuming it ever comes to my region at all, that is.

Guides for fighting games are usually error filled, invalidated within months, and don't beat Google.

So no.

Yes I will be buying this, I love collecting games and game guides and there's no way I'm missing out on anything Smash related.

I'll probably use it most for stage info, details about characters moves and stuff like that.
I hope there's some art too.

If I were to get the guide, I would get it solely for the information on the unlockables that you get while playing solo. However these days everything is on the internet and I don't really have the money to pay for guides, so I'll have t figure out the unlockables myself or have smash boards spoil it for me.

I'll inevitably get a game guide for no other reason than to laugh at how terribly wrong they are about everything in the game.

The fact that Brawl game guide I had specifically said Meta Knight is one of the weaker characters is drop dead hilarious, given that it was apparent from day 1 that he's the top tier character in Brawl.

If I did buy it, it would be more for collection purposes, just like the Brawl guide.

Unless you really need to know how to unlock things, the info is generally either pretty obvious or inaccurate (mainly with characters). It's pretty funny reading the Brawl character guides. With the lowest score at 5, and the highest at 9, the top three characters on the current Brawl tier list (Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, and Olimar) are ranked 6, 6, 5 respectively. Meanwhile, Captain Falcon sits in at an 8.

It is a fun read though, and may help figure out what trophies you need.
