I've heard from plenty of Olimar mains that supposedly ROB has the advantage in the matchup against Olimar. Can someone please explain why? I'm really bad against em... If I camp, I get outcamped. If I get near, I get shield grabbed.

1.) Walk forward
2.) If they fsmash, shield it and try to punish with ftilt. If they grab, ftilt. If they pivotgrab, SH over it or spotdodge it. Your goal is to get them to pivotgrab until they're to the edge of the stage.
3.) Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Don't approach from the air, ever. And if you're ever up next to them within dtilt range, just spam it. Olimar can't shieldgrab it.

ROB's ftilt outranges Olimars grab (not pivoted)? I coulda swore it didn't...

The only problem with that is when I walk forward, I can get overB'd and I take massive damage. I can't shield it, and a tilt or jab isn't reliable to get the pikmin off me, so I have to jump and keep fairing to keep em off of me. If the pikmin latches onto me when I'm walking up, then I have to attack to get it off and Olimar grabs me while I'm getting it off. (If it's on the ground)

On a side note, does Snake or Falco do better against Olimar than ROB?

Even if it was, Olimar could just wait and shieldgrab the d-smash, or pivot grab when ROB approaches in the air.

You don't HAVE to knock the pikmin off. Unless it's a white, you won't take a LOT of damage, and we love punishing those attacks to get the pikmin off. ;x

ROB is harder than Snake or Falco. =/

Snake and falco really isn't that bad. My friend Mark kinda gives me hell with snake, but other than him I do really well against snake. Falco isn't too bad, I'm actually very aggressive against falco and I benefit from that.

on topic: Most of my success against rob comes from stealing the gyro. Seriously, this is so amazing. Even if rob knows you have his gyro, he will still try to use it instinctually, it's hilarious. While you are holding it, spam side B (helps if you have at least 2 purples) and surprise him with upB when he gets too close. Then, when you see an opening, throw the gyro, and try to catch it again when you hit him. He won't know when it is coming because you are spamming all those pikmin at him ^_^

And yeah that's how I win this matchup, just stay away and throw pikmin. Keep your eyes constantly on rob so you know when he is gonna shoop da woop or gyro at you.

Rob's neutral a, dash attack, and f-tilt all seem super effective against oli. My friend used to do neutral a (if it hit) > dash attack. It got me alot, but that was a while ago, so I can't say how good it still is.

something about latched pikmin
Ignore them. As much as you hate taking the damage, you're making your moves more stale than necessary and opening yourself up for free damage from Olimar. If you want to do an attack to lose the Pikmin...hit Olimar lmao... But really, it hurts, but you just gotta suffer through it and be super aggressive ^_^ But in a different way. It's almost like you're camping right in front of his face [camping in the sense that you're waiting and reacting]. I don't think any of his moves are fast enough that you can't react to them and act accordingly, though his tilts/jab may be problematic...I don't know much about those.

if you predict a shield grab [which is pretty easy since you can just sprint at him and bait it sooo easily] stop RIGHT in front of him, barely brief pause, and jab combo his lil ***** ***...can set up for gimps...
Seriously, this is so amazing. Even if rob knows you have his gyro, he will still try to use it instinctually, it's hilarious.
*cries because it's true*

Do. Not. Camp. Olimar.

And as someone else pointed out: do NOT approach from above. Ever.

Olimar's shield is so amazing D: A powershielding Oli doesn't have to fear a fully charged gyro and laser [the combination of those will weaken the shield to the point of shield-pokability from dsmash] so shieldpoking should never be your tactic unless absolutely certain his shield is weak enough.

Don't focus on killing his pikmin. Simply understand which opportunities afford you the ability to punish them. [my favorite is after a respawn, Oli stands there, invulnerable and proud, but his Pikmin aren't invul at all...so he'll pull all 6 out and then...one dsmash will **** all of them, it's -hilarious-]

^^ yea, just ignore them usually. As said, consider not ignoring the whites, and if you can pay attention to his order, avoid the purples. If he does sh pikmin throw (purple), he can follow up with a fair or something. Nasty stuff. Also, even if you have pikmin latched on you, chances are that a lot of their hits will miss anyway if your up close, due to dodges and shields, even if your'e not intentionally dodging to dodge their attack.

Dsmash if your nearby, try to pressure with shfairs. Olimar can do very little to bair/nair.

It seems like most of Olimars "bad" matchups are moving towards neutral. IMO, he only has 2.5 (weegee+peach, sometimes marth)

Yes, you can have 2.5 bad matchups.

Wow, i think i am the only one who has a hard time taking on ROBs. I think I have to face more of them, cause they do the same thing Dodge, D-smash, spam, repeat.
