The Road to Shine is About to End: Top 32

The Road to Shine (RtS), the online Super Smash Bros. for Wii U qualifier for Shine 2016, is about to draw to a close after running through more than a thousand entrants.

After Big Blue eSports, the organizing group of both events, announced RtS, online and remote competitors were given a shot at attending New England’s premiere event on August 26 - 28. Featuring a spread of national-level threats, the qualifier has become a thing of its own.

Following 5 intense days, only 32 entrants remain standing. From this number, only a single player will win the Road to Shine championship title and a full ride to Shine 2016.

Notable Players

Winners Side:

Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce needs no introduction. Specializing in Mario, he is one of the leading forces in his character’s meta-game. He’s also gone on to become one of the more dominant players this summer, winning Get On My Level and EVO 2016.

A blast from the Super Smash Bros. Brawl past, Chukwumeka “Mekos” Anazia was a storied Lucas during his time but retired as the game’s scene winded down. Now, he’s back and more dedicated than ever to prove the viability of his character in a new game.

Luke “Alphicans” Aronyk is a veteran of the series from Alberta, Canada. Thought to be one of the best Little Mac specialists in the world alongside Solreth, his expertise with the character has netted him wins over the likes of iStudying and JJRockets.

A loyal Zelda specialist through and through, Danny “Ven” Salas has been so since Brawl. In fact, ZeRo considers Ven to be the best at his character. Results-wise, he has placed within the upper echelon of nearly every tournament he’s attended.

Losers Side:

Cosmos is a Corrin specialist and ranked 1st on the DFW, TX Power Rankings. Despite a constant stream of exposure during Tourney Locator’s Shockwave weeklies, he is a relative newcomer in the top-level of the scene. At Low Tier City 4, he made a name for himself by placing 4th, out placing veterans like ESAM and MVD.

Joining Cosmos is another Texan: Joshua “The Wall” Doest. One of the best Yoshi specialists in North America, he is also among his state’s best players. So far, he has managed to defeat heavy-hitters like Trela, a fellow Houston resident.
