YarsRevengerson, AKA Bzzy. Now, more than likely, no one knows exactly who I am. I'm a smasher that's a part of a little group called CBC, featuring me, Zanna, Smoky, and 2Fast. Hardly a crew, more like a gathering with a name. I currently main ZSS, and have gone to three tourneys in the past though none of which with ZSS as they happened a while ago.

Currently very upset I figure typing stuff up might mellow me out a little. What's to be mad over? Well, as a player, I do strive to get better, not the best, no, I know Brawl is slowly dying, slowly but surely. I enjoy playing the game, I honestly have fun playing the game, especially with my friend. But there's no source I have of reliably getting better. 2Fast lives a good 30ish minutes from my house, and with schoolwork I don't exactly have the time to drive down there to train. The other two, Zanna, Smoky, live closer, only 15 minutes away, but even then, I can't go over there every day, as they're busy as well.

If tournies was the first answer, as it is the first that hits my head, that isn't as good an option as I would like it to be. In MD/VA, nearly every tourney is in Maryland. Recently, NoVa's been getting its act together and hopefully events will be set up. That is not the case this moment then. A less likely answer would be WiFi, and this, this is what annoys me and convinced me to type this up.

Online in gaming opens up the option to play with people you may not have nearby to play. Especially with fighting games, which you will only get better in at playing others, training against dummies and CPUs will get you somewhere, but eventually you'll hit a cap because playing actual players is a big difference because you have to factor in personal play styles as well as mind games on your own part and on their's. Now, in a perfect world, lag doesn't exist, but it does exist. Playing other fighters online (SSFIV, MvC3, and BB:CS) isn't awful. Is it lagless? Of course not, but I can still perform combos with extreme ease. Brawl on the other hand...Not only does input lag get added to begin with, moreso is added due to the Wii's subpar WiFi service. Now, after input lag is taken into consideration, frame lag also becomes an issue. On WiFi, I've lost to players I think I can beat, definitely so I don't get 2 stocked every match in the least. However, I won't know for two reasons, one, because lag does change each player's performance (I do realize it affects the other player as well) and two, because I cannot gauge my individual skill.

I know that all the problems on my side can be eradicated by more effort on my part as I have three of the coolest guys I've ever known to play in close proximity. The main reason to type this was to vent some anger, and I do feel a little better now.

D'aww...come play MvC3 with me...it'll make u feel better...

In all seriousness, im in the same position 4 the most part. The only way to REALLY get better is to go to tourneys. Everything else is great, but the goal is to go to tourneys, lose, learn from ur losses, and build off of it.

Maybe focusing on that and only that will help u deal with the frustration. At whatever point you get to consistently attend tourneys, that'll be the same time you start to see improvement.

I have been enjoying pretty much every fighter more than Brawl atm, including 64, haha.

We'll throw down in MvC3 one of these days.

Hitting this point as well. I can't get out of the pit. But I know the answer to getting better.

The practice. The experience. The people...and the Drive to be where you want to be.

You know if you're frustrated with the lack of Smash activity, you could start hosting some smashfests/tourneys yourself :p

I don't blame you though. Just took a quick glance at Tournament Listings for Brawl tourneys in VA and there was pretty much nothing there.

Yeah, it's NC, SC, and MD where most of the good stuff is. If you want Atlantic East Coast smash. And Florida, but that's way down there.

Yeah, that's the thing about MD/VA, basically every tourney is up in MD, and even then, it's not like we have tourneys all that often. The last big tourney was Pound, and that was a national. Before that, any other tourney from this year had extremely low turnouts compared to the average tourneys in MD (which have also dwindled)

Another problem with our region is the dwindling interest in Smash.

I get what your getting at Yars.

I too play Brawl mainly with my friends and have a great time with that, but eventhough they are quite good (in my eyes) i could not have imagined what awaited me when I wnt to my first two tourneys.

Its as Tac says, it really comes down to the people you meet and what they can show you in return. Your skill definently gets honed by the amount of practice and the sheer passion for geting better, and its amazing how much you can absorb by going against others who are just as good or better.

Creating a casual smashfest for peeps in the are could also be a solution. If there are many interested and time challenged aswell, you could be able to make something out as a group.
