It's lost the Smash Bros. feel.

Screw Wavedashing, L-Canceling, and Moonwalking. Screw tripping.

The problem with Brawl is that it's not as lovable. Doesn't have that cartoony, awesome feel of Melee and the first Smash. At first, the Brawl theme was funny, but after a while it just doesn't seem to suit the game at all. Everything about Melee and Smash64 was goofy, and the game knew it. Now, in Brawl, playing with Items on is much more dull, as apposed to how hilarious and action-packed it could be in Melee.

It's really hard to put an actual finger on what makes Melee better to play, but it's obvious it had more attitude. From the menu-screen to the levels, Melee was more interesting.

An example is Smashville. It's a CLONE OF FINAL DESTINATION! How could you CLONE a stage? WHY would you clone a stage?! All it has is a moving platform, a (totally badass) balloon, an easter egg, and it's background. Smashville's base could be created in the Stage Creator in seconds.

Then there are items: Why are items like like the Banana and the SmokeScreen Ball replacing items like the Red Shell and the Cloaking Device? Don't say those items were broken because THAT'S THE POINT OF ITEMS! THEY'RE FOR CASUAL PLAY! Why can't The Bopper AND The Bumper not live in harmony? Why can't Mewtwo and Lucario kick eachother's arses? Why is <character> not playable, 'cause a net-gain of only 10 is weak. Emphasis on NET-GAIN.

Sakurai said in an interview he had to trim the game down early on to accommodate for time restraints. WHY? WHY WOULD WE WANT A SMASH GAME TO BE TRIMMED DOWN? All that Smash fans had ever wanted was MORE MORE MOAR. We didn't want you to GUT GUT SKEWER Smash by ripping things out and changing things that did not need to be changed (That line was for you, Captain Falcon).
