It’s frustrating to see the at times angry discussions that the leaks have caused. So many people are shamed from expressing disappointment, and yet so many express only disappointment. Now pardon if this has been done before (I’m new here), but let’s list our lingering hopes (characters, mechanics, whatever) in the face of the seemingly legit leaks, but also list just as many confirmed parts of the game that you appreciate, plus at least one. For example, if you have six hopes, include at least seven positives (if you have more, then by all means, include ‘em). Please, discuss each other’s points. Just stay positive, everyone.

Lingering Hopes

  1. Squirtle and Ivysaur are in. What unique characters they were and could still be.
  2. Chrom is in, with an approximation of Roy’s move set from Melee. I feel as if this would appease both the very vocal Chrom supporters and those who liked Roy in Melee.
  3. Paula is in, complete with frying pans and a teddy bear.
  4. A third representative from Star Fox, be it Wolf or Krystal or whoever, makes it in. It would hurt to see Star Fox go from three representatives to two.
  5. Impa makes it in.
  6. Dixie makes it in.
Existing Positives

  1. The return of Ike. What a surprise it was!
  2. The new fighters that I didn’t know I wanted until I saw them, including Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina and Luma, and if the leaks prove real, Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt Dog.
  3. The announcement trailers functioning as incredible pieces of fan service and hype.
  4. The strive for balance between Melee and Brawl; I do not like it when games actively try to get in the way of players, which I felt Brawl did in several ways. However, Brawl had its many merits, including a brilliant roster, high accessibility and loads of content.
  5. Nintendo’s reconciliation with the competitive community (the invitational, anyone?).
  6. Smash Run.
  7. The Amiibos. I’m not sure if I’ll use them, but I love their name, and they look really, really great.

Lingering Hopes

1. Isaac is in.
2. Layton is in.
3. Bandana Dee is in.
4. Something like SSE in the Wii U version just without cutscenes.
5. Customization is allowed online in the "For Fun" mode.
6. Wolf returns.

Existing Positives

1. Robin is in.
2. Lucina is in.
3: Palutena is in.
4. Greninja is in. Very surprising.
5. The hype generating announcement trailers.
6. No two-characters-in-one anymore.
7. No more random tripping.
8. Nintendo recognizes the competetive community (us) and makes the game more competetively attractive.
(Invitational, Gamecube Controller)
9. Smash Run.

What a beautiful thread!

I believe the big three, King K Rool, Mewtwo, and Ridley, are in fact all in. That Sakurai knew a leak would happen and planned it into his market strategy, and that he has been saving these characters (or at least, others if not them) to make this 'best character game ever' as he wants it to be known (per ....interview I wish I linked here) as hype to Download later in the game, because no good marketing strategy leaves the game open for nothing in a three month interval between releases of a handheld and console version.

The fact that this game is as massive as it is- already tournaments, winning E3, a daily updated website, forums galore-- suld point to why a leak was likely. Sakurai changed his entire GAME around spoilers, hence no Subspace Emissary, so I find it hard to believe he would not change his gameplan, and not have all content on the cartridge, to avoid the leak.

Lingering hopes:
  • All cut characters return at least as DLC
  • There will be enough of a competitive community to play against people... or at least not get laughed at
  • Mewtwo comes back
  • Stage builder
  • Mii Fighters are allowed competitively
Existing positives:
  • The wait is almost over; it's coming out in 34 days, and annoying speculation ends in just 13
  • Duck Hunt Dog is amazing and I'm happy he's in
  • An official soundtrack is being released
  • Yoshi has been buffed all around

Lingering hopes
  • Ridley is playable
  • Zelda was buffed in the final build
  • Palutena's default moveset isn't awful like it seems to be
  • There are more stages other than the leaked ones, including brand new Metroid and DK stages
  • Most arrangements aren't as bad as Try, Try again (please...)
Existing positives
  • Robin and Palutena are newcomers
  • Smash for the 3DS is a thing
  • Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt, Shulk, Mega Man, Villager, Little Mac and Pac-Man are newcomers
  • Ike is back
  • Lucario is back (not a fan, but seeing it come back was amazing, since people were so sure it would be cut)
  • The game's speed isn't like Melee (hopefully a lot of things aren't like Melee)
  • Lots of Kid Icarus content (haters be hating~)
  • Smash Run
  • Cool new assist trophies
  • No more transformation characters!
  • Dem Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Mega Man, Xenoblade and Pokémon stages~

Hopes
  • Better clothing physics... I don't know why but this is quite important to me.
  • New voice clips for most (if not all) fighters. I don't even care if it's from the same VAs just as long as they're good!
  • ... Snake? Aw, who am I kidding...
Positives
  • More FE reps
  • Great sound effects. Brawl's were pretty bleh. Especially the sword hits.
  • Marth and Ike got exactly the redesigns I was hoping for!
  • 3DS version has online. Hopefully better than Brawl's (a very low bar).
Also, is "hitstun cancelling" from Brawl still a thing? If not, or at least to a lesser extent, then that can go under positives too.

So excited! I haven't been able to play a Smash game since day one of its release before. And it's almost here!

  • That at least one or two of the remaining characters are from under-represented franchises.
  • That there will be DLC of some sort somewhere down the line.
  • That Ganondorf has at least some new moves, or at least different custom specials than Falcon.
Positives
  • Great new characters.
  • New emphasis on making each new character unique in terms of playstyle (clones aside).
  • Portable Smash.
  • No tripping.
  • Revamped veterans are looking awesome.
  • Smash Run looks really cool.
  • Cool new stages.
  • Great new music.
  • And probably a lot more that I can't think of right now.

Man, lucky I found this thread. I need some positivity and good vibes. I haven't posted much since the leak. But anyways, here I go!

  • New Classic mode
  • New Music feature

Lying about my country.
Lingering Hopes:
-Ridley?
-Stock battles in online battles with anyone.
-Most balanced game in the series, without characters that are miles ahead or miles behind the majority of the cast.
-Lucina and similar clones are not as identical to their original character as they sound like.
-Improved stage builder with less limitations, and the ability to create make more complex stages.
-Ridley?

Existing Positives:
-Freaking handheld version.
-Console version anyway.
-Stable 60fps in both versions.
-Several characters that I wanted.
-Characters that I didn't want look amazing.
-Every newcomer has a completely unique special feature/gimmick/move that separates them from the rest of the cast even beyond just having new moves.
-Every newcomer gets a trailer.
-The roster is gigantic, and surpasses all expectations, even with no further characters from what the leak revealed.
-Extra versions of Final Destination, I'm sick of seeing that same stage all the freaking time, even casual players spam it like crazy.
-Insane amount of control options.
-Improved online play, with separate game modes for every play style.
-Customizable characters.
-I can ****ing play as myself.
-Gameplay looks fast and exciting.
-Removal of tripping.
-Countless tweaks to existing mechanics for an overall better game.
-New visual effects, for extra flashyness and eye-candy.
-Transformation characters separated, leaving space for full movesets, and making them overall more viable on their own.
-Many alternate costumes.
-New mechanics added to classic mode.
-Extremely iconic third party characters.
-Minor redesigns to more than a few characters, both in appearance, and in moveset.
-Very colorful graphics, without being oversaturated and plain.
-Heavier gravity than in Brawl, and a more noticeable fast-fall...
-... While still keeping aerial combat very smooth, and offstage play a very viable option.
-Faster rolling dodges.
-Most item additions seem very interesting and fun to use.
-A lot of pretty stages with interesting layouts, and complex interactive features.
-Every newcomer is mostly very faithful to their original games in both moves and special gameplay features, with little things that were made up or changed for the sake of change.
-Link seems like an overall better character, and has awesome additions like his iconic jump slash, and backflip.
-Donkey Kong can roll.
-Bowser acts more like Bowser, and has some absolutely sick changes to some of his moves and overall speed that make him far more formidable and intimidating.
-Samus's forward smash freaking explodes.
-Many changes to Pit, every single thing I disliked about him is gone, to the point he's a potential main for me.
-Pikmin are more manageable, sacrificing Pikmin to recover adds extra depth to the character.
-Luigi can still adjust his nose, good job Sakurai.
-Kirby has a chargeable hammer.
-****ing Jet boots are the most badass addition ever, Zero Suit Samus in general seems far awesomer and fun to use.
-New moves for Sheik look very useful and fun to use.
-Yoshi freaking jumps out of his shield now.
-Peach has a rainbow attack. A rainbow attack.
-Pikachu has a healthier yellow color.
-Toon Link's hair no longer looks like an oversized moth, but a gloriously smooth banana.
-Ike looks like a ****ing powerhouse now. Further differentiating him from Marth in terms of appearance, and hinting at his playstyle just by looking at him.
-Captain Falcon. Just Captain Falcon.
-Separate Charizard, good job.
-I can't stop laughing at Wii Fit Trainer's inclusion, and how she moves.
-I can't stop shaking in exciting at Mega Man, and how he moves.
-Villager's moveset is hilarious, cute, and very original.
-Rosalina was a potentially boring character but ended up as one of the most unique ones ever.
-Little Mac is made out of hype, very simple moveset, but some stupidly different properties to everyone else. K.O. bar is stupid awesome.
-Greninja looks stupidly agile and fast, a completely random, but very solid addition.
-****ing Miis, can customize everything, face, appearance, clothing, THREE ****ING DIFFERENT MOVESETS.
-Palutena is the best thing ever, crazy amount of moveset options.
-Pac-Man, didn't want him until he was in, and now I'm in love. Seeing all third parties+Mario is super special and makes me feel warm and happy, childhood me would be pleased.
-Robin is the perfect new Fire Emblem character, the series has more to offer than swordsmen, a mage was very needed, and the addition of an "ammo" oriented character is very welcome.
-I exploded when I saw Shulk, monado mode changes are an excellent idea, and I'm so freaking glad his Final Smash is a chain attack rather than something boring but very logical like Monado Buster.
-WE'RE GETTING A NEW ****ING SUPER SMASH BROS GAME.
