Before I begin, I want to say that this post is not directed at anyone in particular. Because let's face it, that would be insane. Individuals don't make their own decisions. As we know, entire communities of people (especially smashers) collectively decide how to think and what to do, faster than the speed of light.
Yes, we're all aware of this, but it's a great lead-in to the main thesis of this post. With Smash 4 coming out this year for the Wii U, and with many people being disappointed with how Nintendo probably cares more about potential sales than making slight modifications to create a competitive game that's more universally enjoyable, I think it's important to look at why Brawl died.
There were two main reasons:
1. Sure, maybe it might have been probably the worst competitive fighting game to ever be blessed with a thriving community.
2. The constant negativity of the Smash Bros. 64 community.
You ****ing sons of *******. For 6 years we've had to put up with your bashing, jeering, insults, and above all, arrogance. I've been on facebook, YouTube, twitter, all over the net and found nothing but rotten comments from distinguished Smash 64 veterans about how Brawl "doesn't have insanely long hitstun" and how shielding is "far from useless." I even talked to some Smash 64 players in real ****ing life and I'm gonna be super honest with you guys: I didn't really enjoy it all that much.
Actually this one Smash 64 player gave me a cookie at Apex, so except for that one guy that gave me a cookie at Apex.
It seems with Smash Bros. for the Wii U coming out, and shield stun being even smaller and aerial lag being even greater than ever, there's no doubt that these Smash 64 butt****ters are gonna have even more criticism and disagreement with me.
And now, in the leadership position that I'm in on Smashboards.com, I've decided... it ends NOW.
Should the negativity continue to fester, I propose that we split off from the Smash 64 community. This is something that I feel the brawl community should have done a number of years ago; it would be a lot healthier for it. The Smash 64 community has become toxic, unable to tolerate anything outside itself. It stands outside the greater smash community, only claiming unity when assistance is needed.
And if this does not change, I feel it best for the community to split.
Yes, that means as soon as the split occurs (and it probably will), you guys need to choose which game and community you want to be apart of. In fact, I believe if anyone from either community tries to play the others' game or be friends with players from other communities, they should be shot on sight.
For this, we will need trained gunmen, and we need to start preparing as soon as possible. If any of you are interested in joining The Anti-One-Unit Armed Forces, please PM me. Time is of the essence so we need to start training and gathering materials immediately, just in case the Smash 64 community continues to be outspoken about how their old ass game is pretty good. (The character select music is pretty amazing, admittedly.)
In order to capitalize on the influx of popularity upon the release of Smash Bros. for the Wii Y, and to maintain optimal new members to the smash community, change is needed. Extreme change. If Smash 64 causes harm to the new Smash Bros. game, I will indeed rally to split communities, and destroy anyone who tries to stop me. I feel that should Smash 64 remain selfish, brazen, and full of combos, the rest of us need to be cut free from her. She's a b**** known for her intense punishment game, so she should see this coming.
I don't really care if I offended anyone, this is genuinely how I feel. There is no way forward the ways things are currently. And in order to forge a path, we need to blindly enjoy a game that might suck without voicing criticism, or go our separate ways.
Thank you, and happy smashing.
