Vote for Petey Piranha here

Who is Petey Piranha?
Petey Piranha is certainly recognizable as a Piranha Plant, but he differs starkly from a typical one. According to Mario Superstar Baseball, he got his looks from a mutation. Petey Piranha is a big, tall, and strong character with limited intelligence. He does, however, exhibit the ability to acknowledge his own clumsiness. Petey also has a sense of humor, as shown when he skips daintily to home plate when achieving a home run in the baseball games. Often taking naps, he gets frustrated when someone suddenly wakes him up, a trait that is similar to other Piranha Plant enemies that attack when awoken. He is also known for being very hungry and appears to be omnivorous. Despite his low intellect, he frequently aims to destroy Mario; it may also be that he simply attacks anyone who gets in his way. Petey is not always aggressive, though, and has been shown to be passive in games like Mario Power Tennis and other sports games.
His first appearance was back in 2002, with the release of Super Mario Sunshine, where he played as one of the main bosses you had to defeat. Ever since then, he has become a common boss in Mario titles, and has become one of the most reoccurring characters and bosses in the entire series, despite seemingly being destroyed after each encounter. He has also consistently appeared in 19 other sport games and spin-offs from the Mario series.

Petey Piranha is thought to be a loyal follower of Bowser, but this is undetermined. It is quite likely that he is the ruler of his kind, as suggested by his Japanese name, Boss Pakkun, "Pakkun Flower" being the Japanese name for the Piranha Plant. He has multiple special powers that set him apart from normal Piranha Plants, including spitting brown goop which he uses as a weapon, the ability to fly, and being able to summon fines and attack with them. Back when Petey made his first appearance in Super Mario Sunshine, his popularity soared and appeared often in several games in the next coming years.

Why vote for Petey Piranha in Smash 4?
Petey Piranha would add to the heavyweight list of fighters in Smash 4, a trait that is already somewhat lacking in the game's roster. Alongside being a strong and heavy fighter, Petey is known for having an arsenal of unique abilities, some of which being able to summon various types of minions, which he could use as projectiles or for zoning opponents. His leaves, for example, double as wings, granting him the ability of flight. In Super Mario Sunshine, he is also able to whip up Tweeters with his leaves and headbutt the player if they come within range.

Petey's main attack, however, involves spitting out large quantities of brown Goop, which create Swoopin' Stus and occasionally small Piranha Plants. Walking over the Goop makes the player slip, and if stayed in for too long, will even cause damage. This ability of Petey's is not exclusive to Super Mario Sunshine as he can still spit Goop in later appearances, making it somewhat of a trademark of his. Another one of Petey's main traits is his phenomenal physical strength that rivals or even surpasses that of other strong characters. This is especially evident in sports games when comparing his stats to other characters, and in Mario Power Tennis the power of his swings causes all opponents (even larger ones like Bowser, Wiggler, and Donkey Kong) to be knocked back a bit. Additionally, in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Petey can burrow into and out of sand without effort, freely summon wooden blocks, spit out Piranha Plant seeds that sprout and attack the players. In Super Princess Peach, he is able to produce sound waves, shock waves.

Unfortunately, Petey's popularity has slowly weakened through recent years. His last major appearance was in 2008, where he was a playable character in Mario Super Sluggers. Making a return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS would rekindle is fame, and possibly familiarize himself with a new generation of gamers!

Since the original Petey Pirahnna thread had been locked for good, I'll just say that I would love to see this guy in Smash. Not only he would be the ideal Sunshine rep instead of the mech riding Junior, but we would have a proper way of involving Super Mario Sunshine's titular goop in Smash.

I also like the idea of Petey Piranha being in Smash, so I'll support as well.

I used to always pick Petey Piranha and King Boo in Double Dash. I'll definitely vote for him!
