Within the last decade or so, Nintendo has confirmed that the Donkey Kong of the modern era is no the same Donkey Kong of the 1980s.

The original Donkey Kong had a short, but extremely notable presence, in video game history with the first breakout hit, Donkey Kong, followed by Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, and the fantastic Donkey Kong on the Game Boy.

Although his grandson has all the adventures now, and the original DK has since retired and been relegated to his "Cranky Kong" persona, the OG DK deserves a character spot in Smash, in all his 8-bit, barrel throwing glory.

Some moveset ideas include:

Neutral Special: Barrel Roll -- DK rolls a barrel in the direction he's facing. This move has tremendous speed and power, but is a bit slow to initiate.
Side Special: Blazing Barrel -- DK throws a barrel that's already set ablaze. This will cause additional damage that lasts a bit longer than the neutral special.

Up Special: Scaffold climb -- DK puts a pixilated Pauline on his shoulder as he climbs scaffolds. This move will not not have a great recovery, but the scaffolds will fall on those beneath him.
Down Special: Scaffold stomp -- Similar in a way to the new DK's hand slap, DK stomps his feet, causing metal scaffolds and other brickabrack to rain down on anyone in his immediate area.
Final Smash: Arcade -- when initiated near am opponent, they are transported to the first arcade game where DK hurls barrels at them. Although it plays like the arcade, as the opponents can dodge, they are at a disadvantage due to the overwhelming number of barrels, etc.

Not only do I think that Original/Classic Donkey Kong should make it in (and not just relegated to a stage hazard), I'll put my mark on it and say he will get in.

(Please forgive the rough cut of this thread. I have the intention of gussing it up, but something came up while making it I and won't be able to until later.)

This would be perfect! I'm a huge fan of the original Donkey Kong games, seeing OG Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong Jr. would make my day!

Cranky would be better. Giving him moves based on the original arcade DK would be a nice way to tie the old and new together.

Not a bad idea, I'd support that. Maybe give him some alts that reference DK Jr in some way too.
