Well, let's assume birthdays last 24 hours.

Let's also assume that Shane was born anytime on the 22nd past midnight oh one.

Therefore, it quite possibly still is Shane's birthday, no?

And also, if you wanted to get super technical with it, you could say that yesterday wasn't even his birthday, seeing as how he wasn't born on October 22nd, 2007. This can be proven by his age; he is 17 years old.

Then I guess we must decide which definition of day we are using.

A day is 24 hours. This means that, no matter where we start, we can say that a day occurs between 10:02 PM on the 22nd and 10:02 PM on the 23rd, as well as 12:00 AM on the 22nd to 12:00 PM on the 23rd.

In my view, a 24 hour period from one time to another seems to be a superior definition to its counterpart, the midnight to midnight day, because there isn't really a reason, other than for societal factors, to have a specific time as when the day begins/ends (that is to say that day does not just mean in the time of lightness outside). Therefore, since one man's birthday does most probably not affect society by any large amount, it seems more plausible to say that that man's birthday lasts from the time of birth and on for 24 hours.
