The last time these words were said we got the Subspace Emissary. Maybe I'm way over thinking things, again, but I'd just like to point out that it was said a second time.

Gray Fox, who engaged in a grand battle to the death with Metal Gear REX... To think that he would reappear on Wii, and alongside Mario and Sonic at that!

I noticed the "this world" bit in today's update as well, however I figured it was just a mention how Mario, Sonic, and Snake are all in the same game, and that this game or... "this world" is bringing them all together. However, I could be mistaken, maybe you are onto to something... maybe the powering up has something to do with assists?

^ exactly what I thought as well, I was thinking that when Sakurai mentioned "this world" in today's update it meant that Sonic, Mario, Snake, Gray Fox were finally all together in the Smash Universe and that it's unpredicable of what might happen there

He may be over-analyzing this, but I do enjoy mindless speculation. I personally doubt that he said "this world" just because he thought it would be necessary to do before a big Subspae update, due to him not knowing English and it might not even say "this world" on the Japanese page, but it really makes you think doesn't it? Twenty bucks says that the guy who translates the website to English does this on purpose just to see who catches it.
