Oh so they are on better terms than I thought. Also, while GBF has never been on a Nintendo console, it's not like it COULDN'T happen. And besides, back when DLC was decided, Extella wasn't on the Switch, so they're technically on the same boat, except GBF has the 5% Nintendo own in its favor.

Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if we could see Fate Spirits. Representation from 3rd Parties without a fighter are more common in Ultimate with Shovel Knight, and we know about Shantae and Rabbid Spirits, the oroblem is that the first two are indie companies(and thus cheaper rights to get) and the other is in very good relations with Nintendo.
It would at least prove to some people that, no, they aren't anime characters.

As for Spirit Battle concepts, I see your Pit as Archer and I raise "Pit as Shirou and Dark Pit as Archer". The fight is a 2v1 against the Dark Pit where you need to protect Pit.

Also, Fem Robin/Zelda(Dark costume) as Caster aided by a Takamaru Assist Trophy representing the REGEND.
Extella came out on the Switch on July 27th 2017, Im pretty sure they hadnt decided DLC back then.

Also, Fate/Kaleid Liner was on the DS years ago. Techically Saber was in that game. Also, Cloud got in through a bootleg way so yeah. Im sure that game could count.

I don't see Fate characters being Spirits unless a Master were to get in as playable. But even then I still dont see it happening, I mean getting those rights are most definitely not going to be cheap so why only get them for the sake of Spirits? It doesnt make any sense

Rex was specifically noted to have had his game announced too late so anything after XC2's anmouncement isn't making it in as playable.
Though I keep forgetting that Kaleid Liner game exists. Only time that spin off is good for something.

XC2 came out in Dec. 2017, 5 months after Fate/Extella on the Switch btw

So, uh...Should we do a DLC Campaign for Saber? Even if it is next to impossible, it wouldn't hurt if we try.

I did a thing. The uploader's on fire but no worries, Twitter allows me to get around that
There was a problem fetching the tweet

SMH no disillusion, Unmei no yoru or Kirameku Namida Hoshi ni
I tried to keep the music to the original VN as even after all these years, we don't have any music from Nintendo's own anime adaptations such as the Pokemon anime, which tells me they want to have music only from the games themselves.

Do you have the original file for that Series Icon used in your banner?
You mean the one in the Fate/stay night logo? Yeah, I still have it.

Though, I change the series logo from that to the Holy Grail as you can see in my signature. Because I find that to be more fitting since some series icons are iconic items throughout the series (Mario with the Mushroom, Zelda with the Triforce, Metroid with Screw Attack, etc.) and the Holy Grail is definitely the most iconic item found in Fate.

So, yeah, which one would you want? The one in the Fate/stay night logo or the Holy Grail icon?

I'm always on mobile so I never see signatures lol
But I think I'll take the Grail one, wanna use it on that DLC Set image if you don't mind it

Alright, here's the Holy Grail icon:

I made this myself and it looks pretty good for a series icon.

Now that the DLC Lineup has already been decided by Nintendo, how likely do you think Saber will be in it?

I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't make it in, but I think we have a chance. Remember, Extella Link on the Switch is going to be released next year and knowing Nintendo, they'll most likely pick characters that have an upcoming game on the Switch. That's just my opinion, though.

What do you guys think?

I think it really depends if Nintendo is in good relations with Type-Moon. Extella Link being late is weird but it at least means they want to keep releasing Fate games on Nintendo platforms. Like, if both were in agreement to it, I think it would be a good choice as Fate is a big thing in Japan and it's bound to attract FGO fans to Smash.

I think the fact that the DLC was decided by Nintendo is a huge plus. Imo that means that these characters are going to be decided on what will bring them the most money financially instead of who would be weird but intresting and fun to play

So uh that 70+ million a month is lookin real nice my guy

For me, I think it was a good decision that the DLC Fighters are being selected by Nintendo themselves.

That way, there wouldn't be any crazy additions like Piranha Plant and they would focus on characters that would benefit from attracting a certain audience to play Smash or just to promote a Switch game.

Though, because of that, I feel like most of the DLC Fighters will be third-parties (let's say 3 out of 5). I mean, Smash 4 had 3 third-party characters as DLC and this could happen again in Ultimate. I'm just hoping that Saber is ONE of those third-party characters.

Greetings! I too would like to see Arturia playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate! Although she's not my current #1, I admire Type-Moon and think she would be a great fit in the roster. I feel like she's the next Cloud in terms of "Most Unlikely (but still viable) Newcomers".

In regards to Nintendo choosing the DLC line-up, I've seen various comments stating that Sony would benefit more from Fate representation in Smash because of FGO and its developer being part of Sony. I disagree on the grounds that Sakurai would be using the original elements anyway, with nothing going past Heaven's Feel or UBW if we're integrating lore-based stuff. Would "advertising" Arturia in Smash still rake in potential FGO players? Probably, but it's not like there aren't Fate games being introduced to the Switch little-by-little. If anything, her inclusion would likely promote the upcoming Extella game as well as any other future Fate spin-off titles. Bonus points if Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle's "fifth fate" happens to be a Type-Moon series (likely Tsukihime/Melty Blood, but Fate is still possible thanks to its popularity as a guest series for that crossover).

Add that to Fate's 15th anniversary being next year. What better way to celebrate than to put the mascot in a crossover that celebrates gaming?

Sony partially owning FGO is an issue, but given Sakurai's adherence to largely stick to the original material I imagine most content would be pulled from the original VN, with minor references to spinoffs here and there. Having Spirits now means we could get a lot of characters represented that way.

Thankfully, they can just ignore it since FGO is not her game of origin (someone like Mash will have this problem since she debuted in FGO). Besides, it's not like Sony owns the entire Fate series, right?

Yeah, that makes sense, it didn't stop Extella from being ported nor did exclusive deals with Sony prevent companies like Konami and Square to have their own characters added into Smash. Guess I'm just a pessimist.
Don't think FGO content would even be out of the table seeing as Extella Link features Scathach and Darius III which debutted in FGO

Actually Sony (Or better Aniplex/Sony Music Entertainment) don't own FGO at all. It's all Type-Moon. Proof of this is the fact that FGO Arcade is being completely published by SEGA in Japan with almost no relation to Sony at all.

Also, FGO is only "published" by Sony in Japan and North America, while in China, Korea, etc. it's published by different independent companies. Type-Moon still owns all those character's, and DelightWorks develop the game. If Type-Moon REALLY wanted to they could just not renew the contract they have with them and give the publishing rights to like SEGA or somebody.

An example of this is that Capcom use to Publish Fate/unlimited codes, but lost the license and had to take it off the PSN store due to Type-Moon not wanting to renew it.

Also, Banjo & Kazooie are kinda actually owned by Microsoft so uh yeah. If they get in then there is literally nothing stopping Saber from getting in licensing wise. On top of that the games that are on Nintendo Consoles Fate wise have nothing to do with Sony. Why did I bring this up? Because Fate/EXTELLA LINK has FGO characters, like Scathach and whatnot. Yet Aniplex is nowhere to be seen in the game whatsoever, meaning that they don't have rights to those characters.

Off-topic but Melty as the Fifth Fate would be amazing. Having the Astral Finish be Arcueid dropping the moon would be sick. Especially since it'd be in HD

I want them to interact with the other characters, especially with the Blazblue and Persona 4 cast. I was in a Type-Moon vs. Atlus phase at some point, so seeing it happen (of a sort) would be great.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/in...-estimated-9-billion-yen-in-september/.139475

People really try to deny the popularity of Fate too. If you read the Article Pokemon GO made 3.7 Billion Yen while Granblue made 3.4 Billion Yen. Add those up and you get 7.1 Billion Yen, 2.9 Billion less than FGO.

Realize that one of those games is a POKEMON spinoff while the other is rumored to have a rep in Smash. And again, thats both of their revenues combined. Which is still faaarrrr less than what FGO makes.

Then realize that this is just one game apart of a multiverse full of way more games (albiet this one is the most profitable)

Anyone who thinks Type-Moon isnt a big company is stupid

It's fair to say that detractors come up with a number of excuses to keep Type-Moon out of Smash. In Arturia's case – since she's the most realizable candidate – it boils down to the following:
1. "She is not a video game character!"

2. Even if they subscribe to the notion that she is one, they write her off for never being on a Nintendo console in some way

3. Even if they're aware of the first two, they write her off for originating from a game with pornographic elements (not that it's the highlight, but it's still present enough to be considered an issue for many)

4. If you manage to get past all of the above, detractors just don't like the anime aesthetic in Smash, as well as the presence of swordfighters, but this one is hardly an excuse since it's universally regurgitated by an obnoxious vocal minority

5. She's considered a meme character by quite a few. She's weirdly compared to Sans on /v/ from what I've seen, even though the two are nothing alike...

6. She's a threat to other possible reps. Assuming we actually get a Microsoft rep (Banjo or Steve), a Square Enix rep (literally who could it be?), and a Namco rep, that leaves two empty slots. If we were also to assume that the DLC packs are entirely made up of 3rd-party characters, then she opposes the likes of a non-Nintendo cygames rep (assuming Hitagi is credible), another Capcom or Sega rep, a Suda 51 rep, a Bethesda rep, a Ubisoft rep, etc. Case in point is that whoever is getting in as DLC is first come first serve

Now putting everything aside, not only is Arturia a logical choice for a character if Nintendo wants to capitalize on the FGO market (would be amusing if the playerbase is reported to buying a Switch and Ultimate just for her), she's also been around for long enough to be a reasonable "advertisement" type character. I've established this sort of thing with my most wanted, KOS-MOS. Not every character that Nintendo could possibly want playable that Sakurai hand-selected from is inherently a result of corporate evilness.

Someone datamined the Spirits. Theres controversy going on as to whether they deconfirm a character, so at the very least Saber isnt one of them. There are however a lot of 1st parties and even 3rd parties in there from franchises not yet present in Smash so

I wouldn't call this a point in Saber's favour really, why would go and secure the rights to Fate just for a bunch of stock images?

If anything, securing rights to a handful of Masters and Servants other than Arturia herself would have actually helped her chances. For now though, we can hope that the 30 extra slots found in the game's data will be used for popular demand. Arturia as well as other 3rd-party characters like her could potentially see playability in the roster, provided that's what the slots are for (keep in mind that Brawl had extra slots too, but that game did not have DLC support, so it could change here).

How much demand is there for Arturia? Last I heard the Japanese think the idea of her in Smash is ridiculous.

A couple of things to consider:
-Arturia is still a well-liked character. Remember that not everyone demanding their favorite is a troll/****poster. I see a fair lot of people requesting her
-If you're referring to the image below, that's just a minority. 2chan and twitter are no different from /v/ and gamefaqs, at least terms of the "LITERALLY WHO" responses characters (like Arturia) tend to get. Also consider that one of the tweets from Japan literally says they would rather have Kirito instead, so I wouldn't take her detractors seriously, lol

I still can't believe that there are some people who hated the idea of Saber in Smash...

Anyway, I'm really hoping she made it in somehow to prove these people wrong. She is still popular and she has Extella Link to promote as well as her own anniversary in January.

I feel the same way, man. She's on my Top 5 and she'd be an excellent heavy-hitter and a fighter with greater emphasis on the wind element so far. Besides, the only female sword user we have in the roster is Lucina (at least if you don't count the Fire Emblem Avatars which can be either gender).

The comments were cherry picked. If you go on the Reimu support thread or see the post in the Touhou Reddit they talked about it. They also brought up the fact that these comments are a good thing because it means that the Japanese are actively asking for her. Why else would there be such a sudden influx of comments out of nowhere saying things like "Saber shouldnt be in" ?

Even though its only limited to characters that have been present in an anime (So purely VG Characters like Samus for example would be excluded) you should look at some Newtype monthly popularity polls. Artoria frequently ranks in the top 5 each month, and a lot of the time is even number 1.

Also, I found out not too long ago that FSNs Visual Novel sold ~200k units from Winter 2004 - End of 2005. This might seem meh at first but realize most VNs are seen as a success if they sell over 10k units due to their niche popularity and the fact that you dont need a huge budget to make them. 100k is seen as a huge feat and FSN doubled that. Its sequel, Hollow Ataraxia, did the same. I bring this up to give further evidence to the fact that these comments are cherry picked. I mean that 80 million USD a month isnt coming from thin air lol

I'm wondering whether they're going to make her Strike Air attack a Neutral Special or a Final Smash.

In some games like Fate/unlimited Codes and Nitroplus Blasterz, Strike Air is treated as a super move. Ryu & Ken had their respective super moves as their Final Smash, so are they gonna do the same to Saber's Strike Air?
