There was a console, that was hailed head of it's time. It was released in late 1998. It had amazing games such as Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Dynamite Cop, Toy Commander, Fur Fighters, but best of all Soulcalibour. This console is none other than the SEGA Dreamcast. It was the last video game console made by Sega, and is the successor to the Sega Saturn. An attempt to recapture the console market with a next-generation system, it was designed to supersede the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. All in all, it was an amazing console. Other than great games, it had the best graphics of that time and was the first console to EVER go online. It even had its own web browser.
However, SEGA did things to really piss it's fan base off. Before the dreamcast, SEGA made consoles year after year. SEGA fans were getting angry because they had to keep on buying more and more newer consoles, wasting more and more money. EA Sports also got angry because SEGA kept abandoning its focus from the consoles EA sports was making games for. EA Sports got so angry, that they decided to never work for SEGA again. So SEGA made its own sports games for the Dreamcast, 2K sports. It still rivals EA Sports today in other consoles.
So when the Dreamcast was first launched it head off to a great start. However, what lead to the failure of the Dreamcast, wasn't that the console was bad, but it was because of mistakes made by SEGA. Well, firstly people found out who to burn games of the SEGA web browser. So people weren't buying any games. Also, SEGA pissing their fans off came back to haunt them. Everyone lost loyalty to SEGA, so when the PS2 came out, everyone turned their attention to Sony. So in the end, SEGA left the console making buisness and abandoned the Dreamcast. To this day, SEGA still makes games. It can never be as good as before when it was for the Dreamcast.
To this day I still own a Dreamcast. Before I got a Wii the only gaming console I ever owned was a Dreamcast. I kept playing it more than my Wii, until my Dreamcast controllers broke. I'm still hoping to find one to buy. Anyway, the Dreamcast changed the gaming industry, it was a next generation console that brought up the age of online gaming. It can never be replaced and me and a lot of people believe that no other console can ever be as good as the Dreamcast. R.I.P SEGA Dreamcast
EDIT:for those who don't know what a dreamcast looks like, heres a picture of the console and controller http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/20/DreamcastConsole.jpg
