okay so I don't think anyone's made a thread about the flying fortresses from Mario 3. if there is another post than this one can be closed. Anyway.

I'm sorry this is the best pic I could find, the real stage doesn't have to be nearly as big as this

This is the stage from Mario 3 for each boss battle. It would be cool in that it would be a big ship (bigger than rainbow cruise). It could have bullet bills and cannonballs that periodically fire at the player and the ship doesn't have to be just one ship. It could be two ships flying near each other. I thought the stage could work in two ways:

1: its on one ship and just works like atypical battle stage abeit there being cannon balls and bullet bills periodically firing with the stage being non linear (there could be a safe spot away from bullet bills and such with a battle zone area so the player could have stategies hosting another player in the spot they choose)

2: the level could be like the final flying fortress stage and cycle through multiple flying ships as you jump from one to another and fight (the ships would however be at a slow pace so the concentration of the player is on the fighting).

this would be what number two would be like, please note that the platform can be mdified so that there's more platform to stand on than bits and pieces.

so what do you think? I hope sakurai puts in this stage or a stage like this. Mario 3 in my opinion was the best Mario and I think it needs representation. :p

lmao that would be awesome. I play SMB3 alot, and I think that level is really memorable. The only thing that could screw it up, is if it goes so fast, that there is no time to fight (like the Ice Climbers level in SSBM). But really nice idea.

Superb idea. It's so unbelievably simple, and yet no one has thought of it. Considering that both Mario 1 and MArio 2 were playable stages, while Mario 3 was simply condensed into a singular song(One that rocked, but regardless). It would be a lovely alternative to Rainbow Cruise. I do hope they use this idea - Cunningly implemented, I couldn't wait to play this level.

I was thinking about that a lot actually. I would be **** surprised if Mario 3 didn't show up in level form (considering 1, 2, world, and 64 all got levels) Hell I was **** surprised 3 didn't make it into the last game. I mean seriously, its the best-selling game of ALL TIME. the flying fortress just makes sense, its recognizable, its doable, I won't be surprised if it shows up.

What would be awesome? a leaf power up. gives any character a raccoon tail and gives them a better chance of surviving for a limited time. that would be awesome.

Darn.....and I was contemplating whether or not to make a thread about the SM3 flying fortress.

Meh, I don't see why not! I'd love to see this stage on Brawl! I'd be like a retrograded version of Metaknight's Halberd stage.

Wait, I'm pretty sure Super Mario Brothers beat out Super Mario Brothers 3 by 20 million copies.

It was an awesome level in Mario Kart DS, and it should an even awesomer level in Brawl. That should make it in. It'll probably be called Mushroom Kingdom III. Since MK I was from SMB, and MK II was from SMB2.
Yeah I enjoyed that mario Kart stage. The flying fortress just rocks for sure. But it shouldn't be called Mushroom Kingdom III. It takes out the epicness of the stage.

i really like the idea, and i dont know if this was already discussed but, what is the level was constantly side scrolling until you got to that last "silver boss pipe" and the koopa would pop up and shoot his wand ta you! pluss cannon balls and frire,

THIS COULD BE A SUBSPACE LEVEL!
AN AMAZING SUBAPACE LEVEL!!!!

Um it's this stage, the flying fortress. However there were other versions of the flying fortresses like the wonderful money ship, the battle tanks from the 8th world, the battle ship (boat) from the 8th world, and the flying armada that appears above. Though the armada can be consider flying fortresses themselves.

Oh man, I'd kill to see this stage. The game this was taken from was classic Mario at it's finest, and considerably more difficult than later incarnations. Not to mention you get to run around in a flying raccoon suit- hard to beat that for sheer amusement value.

But seriously, Super Mario Bros. 3 wasn't really represented at all in past Smash. Of everything the game has to offer, this would easily be the most interesting stage available. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I'm just gonna give this topic a quick bump so any more clones of it can be silenced for the time being. But the point remains that this would be a much better level, and a horizontal scrolling stage has yet to be introduced into Smash.

Only because SMB1 was packaged with the NES for aa while. SMB3 is the best selling game of all-time that was NEVER packaged with a system (officially). And if we don't get the flying fortress, or Mushroom Kingdom III, I am going to hunt down Sakurai, literally. SMB3 was the first video game I EVER PLAYED, it's the only game I've played more hours of then Smash, and it's my favorite Mario game to date, STILL. It's a classic, and it needs a stage. Otherwise it will be the end of Sakurai!

I can agree with you there Johnknight. SMB 3 was definitly the best Mario and should be the basis for all new Mario games and smash stages. Though just this one would do fine.

How about you start at the ground, you play for like 30 secondes and then the fortress-ship comes and you must all jump on a chain (6 chains in total) and grab onto it (you can climb ladders now, so this could work too?:))
Then after a few seconds of hanging you can jump on the ship and fight there, it's a side-scrolling level, bullet bills are fired everywhere, little moles jump up now and then, there are flamethrowers here and there, and a lot of gaps in which you can fall. At the end of the level, after a minut or 2, you arrive at an open ''field'' on the ship, you can fight here until the end of the match, after brawling a bit one player is left standing and he/she/it has the choice to take the rod that has appeared in the middle. You know the rest after that ;)

Yep. Seems a lot of people thought about this one a while ago myself included. But I thought it might be part of a "Mushroom Kingdom Skies" (Horrible title I know.) Stage, with Bowsers warships vs. the rainbow cruise ships, blowing each other up. That'd be sweet.
