I have a Wii and left it on for quite a while, my GC memory card was in there, and it raised to a VERY, VERY high tempurature, now it will not respond to any of my games, I am unsure if my data is gone, or my Memory card is just acting stupid. Can anyone tell me if you can check the memory card data on the Wii?

Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar problem? Is it permanent or do you think it will fix itself if i keep it out of my Wii overnight?
HELP!

That's interesting because my memory card just started recently acting up on me also. Sometimes when I turn melee on, it says "the data is damaged" or something. If I restart the system it usually works alright. I need to copy my melee data before this becomes perminent lol.

Maybe Nintendo is sending Beams from a satlite, sending radio waves that destroy GC memory cards, so people will buy Wiis for better data storage AND more GC memorycards from the backwards compatability O.o

They'd need your friend code first.
No, I think Ultimario is on to something... it could be the truth!

Nintendo doesn't need anybody's friend code, they made the Gamecube; they can track every single one with the secret tracking chip built into every Gamecube. Even if they don't use that, they can just shoot 'Gamecube Memory Card Destroying beams' randomly at the Earth and slowly get them all that way.

The solution is clear: cover your memory cards with tinfoil, and preferably put them in an electric or magnetic field to prevent the beams from destroying your data.

Uh, seriously though, I don't actually own a Wii, so I can't tell you. Well, my roommate has one and I keep my memory card in it most of the time but we never keep the system on for long periods of time, so it probably will never overheat.

(Wow, I would never think someone whould agree with me on that one, but this is craziest forum ive ever been to, so I guess it makes sence, XD)
I left my Wii on for maybe..... 6 hours solid playing MP8, I left it idle while I went out to eat dinner (yes, I played it for about 4 hours straight before dinner :p)
I am lucky though, it seems a few games are responding to my memory card now, but Melee says data corrupted. I am also lucky because I remembered I had a back-up Melee Data on a seperate Memory Card. :) (unfortunately my near world-record 10-Man Melee Scores [if anyone cares about those] are gone >.<, I cannot reproduct the luck I pulled off for those)

Interesting; I've never had memory card overheats with my GC during the 6 years that I've had it. However, I've dropped it numerous times, with the most recent time being this morning, from about 4 feet. The result was that the disc popped out (somehow after it fell, the GC was closed, and the disc was outside on the ground right next to the GC), but my GC can still run fine.

It also has a crack between the 3rd and 4th controller ports. Nintendo makes really sturdy ****, lol.

6 hours shouldn't do too much harm.. I'll have days when my wii will be on for 8 hours+ and it sitll works okay.. iono.. maybe your wii contracted a virus while you were on the internet channel and it targeted your memory card?.. =P XD

Just blow into the memory card and the slot it goes in. If it acts up, try to really jam your memory card in there.

SOMETHING made it overheat that day, but now these effects are gone
Most my memory card data has returned, and is no longer overheating.

this was really weird...

i went to play my wii yesterday, and it just didn't look like it had any power or anything...
i checked the outlet and it worked fine... but the wii still wouldn't turn on when i had it plugged in there. i carried it around my house for a while, plugging it into a few different outlets, just to see if i could get the little red/yellow light to turn on. after a while, i gave up and returned it back to my room, but when i plugged it into its home outlet, it worked!

im guessing it was something with the AC adapter, but im still a little confused about the whole thing... ive never had a faulty product from nintendo... maybe it too got a little heated up? :ohwell:

Leaving nextgen (or even lastgen [where's 'currentgen'?]) consoles on for a long time is a bad idea. I remember when I got into the home stretch of Metal Gear Solid 2 (way back when PS2's were fat) and played the latter half all night. No obvious connections, but since then it has refused to play PS1 discs and most GTA games. It probably wears out the laser.

Yes, you can check your GC mem card data in the Wii's options menu, the same place where you check Wii save files, just choose GC instead. This way you can see if the files are there. That long shouldnt harm it, unless there was a hearter next to it lol. My roommates had his Wii on in GameCube mode for like a Wii now with Smash. he dosnt like turning it off so he dosnt have to turn it back on with his wii remote that has practically dead batteries and choosing gamecube again lolz.
