The CPU is kicking my rump

Up to now i never really had trouble with the CPU, not in melee, not in brawl, not in the 3DS version.
Lv9 CPU´s were just a mild amusement and something to try new things on.

Then i got my Wii U version today, and since EU players cannot currently access the online modes i decided to begin practicing with my favorite characters and unlock a few costumes and customization options ofr my Mii.

Aaaaaaand i could barely land a single hit vs the lv9 opponents.

Every attack was shielded/dodged then countered, every attempt to approach the enemy was heavily punished and at some point the CPU even began edge-stealing me so the second i grabbed the ledge, to try and make me fall.

The only way i found so far to even land a single hit is to bait them to attack and then punish it with something fast but that´s about all i can manage without being instantly countered.

Now, i know i am not the best player out there, i consistently get owned by most players here on the 3DS and i am yet to learn any of the advanced techniques, but up to now i had never lost to a lv9 CPU.

Did they buff them or did i miss something here?

Yes.
And I think the 1.04 patch of the 3DS version has also buffed the CPU in it.

It is not so much that the online is not switched on for EU.
The problem is that to play online you need to download the update, and said update is not available to EU players since technically the game is not released yet, so if i try to go online it tells me to re-start the game to allow it to update, but alas, it doesn´t.
