The COMPLETE Platform Fighters Thread

Platform Fighters have been around longer than most of us realize. There are way more out there than many would even guess. I decided to make this thread to list every platform fighter I can find in order of the year of release. But before we begin we must first define what a platform fighter is.

According to most it is defined by 3 major factors.
  1. Characters have freedom of movement similar to platforming games
  2. Stages typically have an emphasis on platforms
  3. The goal is to beat your opponent. Can either be other players, CPUs or in-game enemies

What DOESN'T define a platform fighter
  1. The percentage system. While many games like Smash, Rivals or NASB use this system it's not required or be considered a platform fighter. Health bars and other methods to be opponents are ok. Even though the image up above seemingly states other wise not it also says "typically" meaning while that's the most popular option other methods of defeating your opponent are still welcome.
  2. Simply being a crossover. This should go without saying and mentioning it sounds insane but you would be shocked how many people would call a game a "Smash clone" primarily because it's a crossover.
  3. Being Multiplayer only. There are attempts at making single player games inspired by platform fighters
  4. Being 2D only. There are also games that are 3D that could be consider platform fighters but many of these are debatable at best so please keep this in mind.
Also let's stray from using terms like "Smash Clone" "Smash Ripoff" or "Smash Killer" this genre deserves to be able to stand on it's own two feet without the biggest title determining their worth. You don't call 2D side scrollers "Mario clones" or any traditional fighter a "Street Fighter clone" do you? This genre has history that goes on for 40+ years. So let's let it grow.

Also this list will not include mods or fan games as this list is already big enough as it is and I'm mainly looking at official releases.

And if there is any that I have missed please be sure to tell me! Even if you're not sure put them down below anyway so I can look into it!

Let's begin with this almost 100 game list!
