Cia Crushes the Competition!
Who is Cia?
Cia is the main antagonist of the next Zelda game, the spinoff of Dynasty Warriors, Hyrule Warriors.. The Black Witch is an evil witch, who had her good soul chased out of her by dark forces. She has a strong sense of self, clearly states her desires, and a provocative and aggressive personality. She wants to make the whole world hers, but especially she wants to make Link hers. She was originally the Overseer of Time who would watch the adventures of the Hero through the many times he had saved Hyrule and the protector of the Triforce of Power. Once day, she would become interested in him out of admiration and would be devastated to realize that he's bound to be with Zelda regardless of the events in time.
This is where she would be under attacked by a certain force of evil and become the power hungry sorceress she is. She does share some shocking similarities with Lana if you ignore her mask, which makes sense
because she was what remains of Cia after the Ganondrof's evil energy corrupted her with her good side (Lana) wondering around to get the help needed to fend her bad side off.
Although that was far from the last time we had seen her. She would eventually return in the next game as a part of a ritual to revive and agrees to oversee time with Lana towards the end of the game.
What abilities does she has? Are they any more unique than Lana's?
Fitting for her title "Black Witch", she is armed with a variety of dark powers and other devastating spells. These abilities include dark traps (which would erupt into pillars of darkness), spiraling magic spheres, summoning with the Gates of Time (which is a favorite methods of her's for grinning forth dark images of the Hero or catalyst of the game's plot), cloning, levitation, and wind magic. The Scepter of Time is Cia's main weapon type in the game. It is sort of a cross between a Magical Rod and a flail. Cia uses it to perform magic, attack enemies with the flail mace on the end of the Scepter, or creating the Gates of Time she needs. So think of her as a ranged fighter that lashes away from far or resort to her magic when she;s in severe danger (usually for spacing or setting up surprise attacks).
Is Cia really that popular of a character? Why should she be in Smash compared to her own minions?
Cia's role in the game had been met with both praise and criticism from the fans of the series. Most of this stems from how her one and only motivation for villainy in Hyrule Warriors was because of her love for Link. While it is true that she may seem like your average thirsty fangirl, it actually was relevant in showing how this obsession took a toll on her sanity to the point that her own motivation became her weakness during the main plot and the Cia DLC. Few of it also stems from how sexualized she is compared to the average Zelda character while there were characters like that who existed before. And it's possible for the design to be toned down for a Smash friendly appearance,
On a more positive note, she does have her fair share of fans that like her for her unique motives or unique design (yeah, that design). Plus, she received her very own DLC that expanded the story from her perspective plus the Guardian of Time outfit (That also went with her adversary Lana). There had been a fraction of fans that actually prefer her in that said outfit which can be seen as "safer" for Smash as opposed to her usual attire.
Ever since the release of these materials, more Zelda fans would warm up to the character, citing her story as tragic as a majority of the ones from Majora's Mask. This would eventually gain her a fandom that surpass that of her own minions (Volga, whom is almost as popular as her) and making her a villain as memorable the likes of Vaati or Veran/Onox. While it doesn't mean that she's guaranteed for Smash, but she does have her fans and chances are that she had some notability (But not as much as Lana).
