If the person bought the game, then they can pretty much do whatever they want with it. If they want to use a cheat and unlock everything right away, then let them. I would personally try to unlock everything myself without resorting to cheats and codes. The point is, its there money, their game, there was of doing things.
We just submitted the same thing at almost the same time. Lol what a coincidence.

I agree, but some people don't want to even bother unlocking stuff, some people rather have everything unlocked from the start and begin practicing for tournaments.
Oiye, that's a horrible reason. I'm glad I don't go to tournaments. Sounds like it takes the fun out of the game. Unlocking stuff and feeling a sense of accomplishment is what I get a kick out of.

I just know once Brawl is released in Japan I'm going to have to stop coming to these boards from fear of having everything spoiled before I get the game.

There weren't melee tournaments till like a year after it came out, and everyone had everything. There really isn't a rush to unlock things, since the next Smash Bros won't be out for 6, 7years+

Without dying? That'd be pretty darn hard. I can see if it was like, Without Continuing, but not dying once during Classic mode on Intense would be...hard.:p that deserves a stage unlocked.
you kidding me? that deserves a special scene of peach and mario doing it.

Aww S***! Why does Action Replay have to be on the Wii now? Maxieman, you're right, the HAx0rZ will totally screw the whole online system.

btw, the unlocking process will be no different from Melee, for sure.

this brings an interesting point, how will "HAX" affect online play?
Nintendo would have to release a patch to try to stop people from cheating, thats my guess.

Haha, all good guesses. However, winning online would not work because some people don't have access to the internet for their Wii. That would be sort of horrible for them. XD
There could also be alternatives to unlocking awards.

Good to see I have some supporters. It stinks because I found this place like two weeks ago and I find it interesting, but I'm having a hard enough time avoding the Super Mario Galaxy major spoiler as it is.

Hopefully a system will be implemented where the game recognises if you're using cheats and blocks you from playing online while they're active.

It took me about three years to unlock every trophy (that includes long periods of time in which I didn't play). Then my friend accidentally wiped the save file. Wish I'd backed it up, looking back.

The secret trophies of Mario and Yoshi and Samus without her helmet on annoyed me considerably, seeing as you couldn't actually get them. I enjoyed getting the Olimar trophy though, but if Pikmin hadn't been a great game I would not have been happy. For this reason I'm undecided about whether there should be methods of unlocking involving the online play or not, but if there is anything it should be minor and not count towards any totals, like how the secret trophies in Melee didn't count towards whether or not you 'had all the trophies'.

Personaly, I want characters unlocked quick so I can use them since that's what Smash is all about. Though a steady rate of secret characters with 1 maybe 2 hard to get secret ones unannounced on the DOJO would be nice. That way everyone is happy and the likes of sonic, snake, and any other 3ed party are easy to play as.
Overall, it's not how quick, but how steady unlocks are.

Right now I think every character announced up to this point is available from the start. Unlockable characters will probably be announced after February 10. Depending on how fast and how easily characters are unlocked, Smash Dojo will probably announce characters in a certain order.

I know one thing for sure: When I get this, I'm trying every ****in unlock method from the past two games: Win a VS match with every starter character (That's one way how to unlock Marth, in case you didn't know), play for 20 hours (4 controllers FTW!), beat classic mode, beat classic mode really fast, etc. Hell, I'm even trying the Konami Code!

This is just another thought that I had about unlocking things. If there is anything that has to be done in Story Mode that may be a little bit harder than usual, it will probably have to deal with an auto handicap set on you. For example, you might have to fight like 2 people teamed up while you are alone with 50 percent to start out with.

Well it was mentioned in the last update that you can get "other rewards" via online coin betting

Lol, shopping for unlockables. Oh my god, I would hate that. An unlockable shop would completely spoil everything, and it would feel like you're having to win by labor and slavery over a game.

List of things to try day of getting the game...

Classic Mode with every character
Subspace mode with as many as I can
A VS mode party, random stage, random characters
Target Tests
Home Run Contest
Extra time spent fooling around in various modes testing items
Lottery can wait until I make a decent bet online
If I see a CD, sticker, trophy, piece of litter, or even some form of feces...I'm going for it
Make my own stage, designed exclusively for racking up as much damage as possible, and another for KO scoring
Anyone who even says 'That's cool' about the game will get their own profile
Finally...as much as I hate them...Event Matches

Also, I'll be in seclusion from the web for a while, rather it be a minor surprise. Give it a week, then I'll pop up to find out what I'm missing.

As far as the whole "Subspace with as many characters" idea, I think that characters are chosen at certain moments. It's not like the original adventure mode where you pick one character and fight all the way through with them. Characters meet each other up depending on the decisions you make. So basically everyone is involved in one epic story mode.

Also another thing, event mode is very likely to be a factor in unlocking characters, stages, and trophies. Depending on the difficulty set on certain event matches and how well they are cleared will definately determine what will be rewarded.
