Smash Champion
The announcer shouldn't say anything at the victory screen. It should just be a solid black background with this imposed onto it:

So you're honestly telling me you took some inkling of extra enjoyment from a more convoluted post-match announcement? Were those extra few words really part of what made Melee the better game for you? Or are you just so caught up on the 'MELEE OVER ALL' wagon that you'd take anything and everything, however ridiculous, just to have SSB4 be Melee 2.0? Don't get me wrong, I loved Melee. But Brawl was sweet too. And no way in hell did the announcement message swing me either way, it's a ridiculous thing to even make a point of, especially when one is needlessly convoluted.Who's being smug? Why can't we like a particular game? I feel like if the consensus agrees that something about a game was more enjoyable then that means the game got something right. Would you feel the same way if people said the same about 64 or Brawl? No, because you are ignoring the fact that we are talking about all of the games.
Now what IS smug if your condescending hypocritical remarks about people who enjoyed the game. But since you are so densely enveloped in tunnel vision you can't seem to acknowledge and respect the accomplishments made by the previous smash games and celebrate the fact that they are all played and we all have our preferences.
Melee was a solid game and did things right. Quit being such a fanboy and leave people be. Just as you can't post in a thread without a Melee fan, we can't post in a thread without some ******* telling us we have some sort of superiority complex.
"The winner is" isn't accurate. Why would you want to revert to a more convoluted announcement, when the far more streamlined Brawl announcement did the same job?
That's the worst argument I've ever heard. Seriously. You're playing a video game, what could you mistakenly believe you'd won? The world chess championships? One is convoluted and unnecessarily long. The other is shorter, to the point and does THE SAME JOB. This is just more of the same old 'Melee is the better game and therefore let's copy/paste everything, regardless of whether it's grammatically correct and/or a worthwhile addition.' Come on. Melee rocked, but one line of dialogue that is clearly overcomplicated should never be chosen over the more grammatically correct solution, especially when it performs the same function to the same standard. We loved Melee for the gameplay, not for the extra words in post-match announcement."The winner is" isn't accurate.
Winner of what?
"This game's winner is" is perfect.
What did they win? This game, that's what!
Honestly it just sounds more grand and it left more time for suspense.
Actually, yes, those things are a big deal. Melee just excites me much more than Brawl, hell smash 64 excites me more than Brawl. Even if it's small things like the announcer, after game stats, music etc. It makes a huge difference in the overall experience. I played the **** out of Brawl, even got top 10 in game battles when it was around, but I just got bored of it. The atmosphere of the game, gameplay, the break the targets, the depressing main theme...it just wasn't for me.So you're honestly telling me you took some inkling of extra enjoyment from a more convoluted post-match announcement? None of what you just posted is an argument for that line of announcement. It's clearly convoluted without necessity. It performs the same function as Brawl's more streamlined alternative. Not to mention it's interesting for all of about 3 games until it's skipped through ready for the next fight. It means nothing. There's no argument for the original over the replacement because the original is grammatically inferior, and the announcements sucked in that game. It was Engrish, at best. If you refuse to see that, that's cool, but seriously, we know Melee had better gameplay. However, that in no way means it was better in every respect, whether you choose to recognize it, or instead cling on to meaningless announcements.Actually, yes, those things are a big deal. I love playing super fast and technical with Fox and Falco. I love the game play engine. I love stages like Pokefloats, Peach's Castle and Dream Land 64, I love the gourmet race theme on dream land, I love reading the little stats after a match, I love individual break the targets, I love landing knees with Captain Falcon, I love target test, I love the large community of Melee players, I love Melee.
Melee introduced me to the smash community and let me enjoy smash in a way I never thought possible and paved the way for my love of fighting games, and to this day it remains to be my favorite game of all time. I wouldn't give up the game for anything in the world.

Nevermind. You rescinded, and therefore I do too. It's clearly blahblahblah--psh...
Nerd.
A) I'm mostly joking here, relax. That's the worst argument I've ever heard. Seriously. You're playing a video game, what could you mistakenly believe you'd won? The world chess championships? Different strokes for different folks, buddy. I preferred it more streamlined, but I personally tended to skim-read the stats and skip through, and didn't pay much attention to what was said after my first few games. Either way, we'll probably get another slight variation in SSB4 and then we can all ***** and moan that the announcements 'aren't like the good ol' days.'A) I'm mostly joking here, relax.
B) 2 out of 3 games had that line. I just got used to it. It became you miss when it's gone.
Here's an honest to god opinion though:
It's more exciting,
THISGAME'SWINNERIS!!!!
or
The winner is....
You need the extra verbage so it takes just that tiny bit longer.
I'm currently doing the dialogue and some voices for an actual game it really does matter.
I said stuffAnd that's the mark of somebody who can't form a valid argument, and therefore resorts to classless insults. Read your 'ode to my childhood in my bedroom playing Melee' above, however, before you call anyone else a nerd - embarrassing.
64 crowd or go home.I really hope the crowd is more active like it was in Melee, I forget there even is a crowd when I play Brawl.
Call it what you like, Brawl really messed up the hype factor in the menus and announcer. It was good but such a stark contrast and it wasn't conducive to long play sessions.Different strokes for different folks, buddy. Don't get me wrong, I liked the extra emphasis and hype in the announcements - Brawl fell slightly flat in that respect. However, the actual grammar sucked and was painful in places - Engrish at it's finest. I'd prefer more of Melee's energy with better translated material to read - a mix between the two, I guess.64 crowd or go home.

There's a reason that despite being a joke of a game MSH vs SF is popular. The announcer verbage. Unnecessary and convoluted as **** but it ruled.
This isn't "I <3 Melee", Melee had mistakes. This was not one.
How is saying "this game's winner is Mario" less grammatically correct than "the winner is Mario"? They're both grammatically correct.Don't get me wrong, I liked the extra emphasis and hype in the announcements - Brawl fell slightly flat in that respect. Mewtwo, Pichu, Dr. Mario, Roy <<< Diddy Kong, Wario, Snake, Sonic, King Dedede, Metaknight, Olimar, Pokemon TrainerNot if you like Mewtwo, Pichu Dr. Mario and Roy.
More isn't always better.
Don't you have copies of Melee to shove up a place where light doesn't reach? Seriously, I just said that Melee's black screen looks terrible, because it does, we could get something like a series-themed background with the character that won, now THAT would be awesome, Brawl took the first step by placing the characters SOMEWHERE, then Project M took a step back because nostalgia. We get it, Brawl is a godsend, Melee is terrible blah blah blah. Don't you have worthless threads that don't have to do with the game to make?
Competitive Potential...there...that's pretty much it.Maybe I'm just biased from nostalgia here, but I'm pretty sure Melee has a better everything.
EDIT: Although, Melee doesn't have those neat intro animations that both 64 and Brawl have. That's something I guess.
