Technically improving ?

Hi there,

As Falcos, we all know that speed and technical are very important. I main Falco for 4years, and while I'm not very good at beating up opponents, I'm quite technical. I can do waveshines-SHFFL-pillar-LHDL-ledgetechs whenever I want, but I haven't improved since 2years, I think.
Are there new AT that Falco has to handle ? How do you warm-up before playing ?
I tried to go on training and do some technical moves, but apart from pillaring and SHFFLing, I don't know how to improve...

Thanks for the answers ! :)

That could help me with improving at mindgames or battle in general, but...
I try to improve my technical game because I can't often play VS better or equal people than me. Nobody around me plays smash, and I go to tournaments every 2months (my city isn't very smash-active)...

So my question was more like :
Because I can't improve my general gameplay since I can't play VS real smashers, how can I improve my technical better than I'm, because I want try to improve in solo.

(sorry if my english if somewhat bad, I'm french, and France is well-known for being *** in english-speaking :D)

You could practice shield pressure. Put on Starmen = shield lag. So just practice that I guess. Shinegrabs are really good. Also, try to Shine OoS>WD

Get really good at stage movement this means wavelands with invincibility from the ledge, wavelanding on the lower platform of YS BF from the ledge, getting from the lower platform to the high one, shine turnaround grab the ledge, etc. Playing someone else is the best way to get better at your level but when you're by yourself get a good handle on stage movement since being under pressure reduces your technical ability greatly. and even learn near pointless things like moon walking and multi-shine flashiness when bored it should make you faster and more accurate with your execution of most things.

Well, I'm trying to improve on stage movement such as phantasm ledge cancel (especially in PS & BF), that's a good way to be faster in general.
Anyway, I don't like pointless things like moon walking, phantasm ledge stall and XXXmultishines => I can perform these but I don't want to be too flashy : in my opinion only useful things would be learnt since the more we're flashy the less we reflect and use mindgames

Metal Reeper => Well, performing shinegrabs isn't hard, but it is hard to handle it in a match and since I cannot practice VS habits...
But I'll try to Shine OOS => WD, seems useful.

Thanks a lot, helpers :)

Shield dropping sounds like an appropriate conquest for you. You can shield drop to aerial at distances appropriate for ledge cancels, and FF L-cancelling aerials after shield drops is really fast and impressive. If you need some inspiration, check out Perfect Dark.

The first shield drop he does is in the clip 40 seconds in. He does a lot of shield drop -> shine turn-around -> double jump waveland tricksies.

Other than that, just be creative! Most of the clips people consider awe inspiring are really original applications for different things put together.

I watched 0:40 and didn't see any shield. Do you have any other example of what is a shield-drop ?
Sorry for this question that may seem stupid but I don't really see where is the shield drop in Perfect Dark >_<

He does it really fast, you may have missed it. Anytime Dark dashes and then falls through a platform, he shield dropped.

wow, isn't this the ultimately irony.

if you want a technical challenge, switch to fox. if you want to beat people, you are already the best character for doing so.

terrible.

I don't understand how you see irony there. I'm just asking on how to improve, such as 95% of this board, but I'm asking in a different way : traning play, because I can't play versus anyone.

not trying to hijack, but i have a tech related question. recently my lasers have started not coming out when i SHL and i don't know if it's because i'm fast falling too soon or not pressing B fast enough after jumping. is it pretty easy to fast fall too soon for the laser to not come out, even if you press B immediately? i want fast, consistent lasers and this is pretty crippling right now, so i'd like to know whether to fix my fast fall timing or work on pressing B faster.

for what it's worth, i go from y to b to SHL and i feel like i'm pressing b pretty fast already

Shouldn't be too difficult. Just jump, press B, and then fast fall as you start to shoot, but before the laser comes out. If you are hearing a click sound as you land, that means you pressed B to late. The main thing to keep in mind is that the only thing you have to time is pressing B. You should short hop and then fast fall as soon as possible (at the peak of your jump). Once you can consistently SH FF, just mix up the timing of your B presses and you can change the height of the laser. If your laser shot doesn't even start, you might be hitting B too soon after Y. Falco's jump is 5 frames long, so if you hit Y then B immediately after the game wouldn't be registering you as pressing anything.

I hear the laser sound, so if I understand your post correctly I just need to work on pressing b faster? or would it be better to simply fast fall a little later

Just try to SH-->B-->FF in different speeds until you get your lasers out. I don't think you have to be all that super fast shooting a SHL though haha :D
