So I was playing blunted object in some friendlies fox vs falco, and Im sort of addicted to shine upsmashing you could say, so anytime I had an opportunity to punish lag my move of choice is shine upsmash, however I quickly realized that this isn't a real combo on falco as eric teched every single shine into the ground and rolled past me before the usmash came out, the exact same way amsah was teching zhu's dsmashes at pound 4

so I'm wondering what this means for the thunder's combo as it involves the opponent not being able to tech.

does hitting the opponent with an aerial before shining them make them unable to tech?

and also how exactly do you do tech shine or dsmashes or whatever into the ground?

ur suppose to jab reset them rite after shine if ur trying to do thunder combo.
the jab comes after wavedashing out of you shine to jab their fallen body, Im saying that its possible to tech the shine so this is impossible, but im wondering if hitting them with an aerial completely prevents the doublestick DI or whatever makes teching the shine possible

well combos arent meant to be perfect that is why this whole combo involves ur opponent to fail his tech from the shine because hardly any1 is able to tech fox's shine perfectly all the time.

yeah. thunders' combo only works if they miss the tech. even if they miss the tech, at reasonable percents they can buffer a roll/getup attack, and at most % they can SDI the jab up and the reset isn't forced.

it still *****. people aren't perfect.

Of course the shine can be tech'd, its just like every single other move in the game that knocks your opponent down

All you'd have to do is hit L 20 frames before getting hit by the shine and you would tech it every time.
Havent you ever shined oos vs a falco who was sheild pressuring you and they randomly tech the shine? Its because they were inputting L-cancel but you hit them with the shien so it registered as a tech.

the thing about thunders is that its pretty fast and can be done out of a whole crapload of mixups so its hard to tell when exactly you should press L to tech it, because otherwise you could get tech'trapped, or the Fox players could simply NOT go for thunders at all and simply do a million other things. Its way more spontaneous and difficult to judge.

The reason Blunted probably tech'd all of you're shine-/upsmashs is because he simply KNEW you were going to go for it. So instead of waiting to be hit by nair/bair/fsmash/what have you, he just hit L super early and got away.
What you were doing is basically the equivalent of always trying to upthrow->shine->moveset an opponent. Sure, it may work once but if its all you ever do, the opponent only has to adjust and hit tech early instead of saving it for some other would-be combo.
