So I have a team tourney at my school,
Yeah I can't believe it myself!

Anyways I'm really unsure what character to pick for my blind,
Since I've never played in a tournament before.

I can do basic skills on all characters, wavedash, dashdance etc.

But I mostly focus on 3 characters;
Falco, Fox, and Falcon.

Other characters I use include;
Marth, ICs, Shiek, Jiggly.

My partner is not very familiar with the advanced tech skills of melee,
but since he uses shiek that's a good advantage right there lol.
And for some reason, he naturally has awesome reads and spacing.

But he can only use shiek, aside from down smash spamming with peach.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brackets i'm scared of is just 2 teams.

Consisting of a fox + falcon main.
and a fox + falco main.

*mainly the foxes*

Any tips D: ?

Falco gets gimped easily in teams so if you are new to Melee, use other characters like your :fox: then when you feel like your Falco is ready in teams, use it. Good luck at your first tournament and welcome to the Melee tournament scene. Don't worry if you don't get 1st and don't be discouraged if you lose. :)

I'm not really new to melee per say, just new to the competitive scene D:
I bought the game when it came out and played like any other person would play, mashing buttons lol.
I just got competitive a year ago.

I'm just not sure when it's good to whip out my Falco,
Falco is like my primary main and I can get the most technical with it.

My fox isn't bad, it's just I usually slip my finger while wave shining and do a forward b off the edge.

I haven't played a really good fox before so I don't know what to expect.
I've heard that the fox (fox + falcon team) has played in US tournaments and that just really scared me lol.

Thank you for the support :)

so yeah falco sucks in teams. If you want? Go for it, don't let me stop you.
I suggest you try fox or falcon first in teams, and get used to it first. good luck

Me and my friends were having friendlies the other day with teams.

I found my Fox to be the most effective and Falcon too, so I guess I could use those o=

What about Shiek/Marth/ICs/Puff

Are they good with teams?

Also would Fox and Shiek be a good combination?

Falco actually doesn't suck at teams, you just have to know what you're doing and be really good at it.

IMO if the other teams aren't great pulling out your jiggs and grab resting all day is a strat you should consider.

^ In the tournament,
There are obvious beginners, amateurs, and pros.

I guess I could play jiggs and fool around with the beginners.

But with the better players (not exactly pro with these standards), they'll just use fox spam some lasers and just uthrow, uair me and i'm dead :(

Actually it seems he does suck. As far as I know, nobody really uses him successfully, all the falco mains just use fox in teams. That's not to say it's impossible to use falco in teams, certainly, but especially for OP, falco probably isn't the best choice right now.

He's high risk high reward. Other characters are definitely stronger than him at teams, so I suppose i'll reward what I was saying to that he's not terrible at teams. I agree though, falco probably isn't a good choice for OP.

As for tips against fox in doubles, just try to shut down their goals (usmash combos from grab or other stuff, gimps, controlling the stage) I suppose. If you can pull them off, gimps are great as fox is particularly susceptible to them.

Also, why a doubles tournament and no singles?

OMG I WON THE WINNERS FINALS!

Just got to win the grand finals and we win $16 pot :)

I was really worried because the finals we probably faced one of the best teams.

First 2 brackets were lucky cause we got easy players :)
3rd bracket was okay since it was our friend and we always beat them ;p

I found Falcon/Fox to work wonders.
And my falco was unfortunately killed too easily ;(

Thanks for all the help ~

fox is a great choice. he is really good at gimps and all that jazz and also has a slightly more reliable recovery than falco. if you do go falcon, throw out alot of knees haha

congratulations!
yeah, I find that falcon is an excellent character to start out in doubles with (given that you already mained him ofcourse lol)

fox also is stupidly good. just nair up smash and shine spike lol so gey in dubz. when you develop the movement and mentality falco is also a great doubles character. but at first he is really hard and confusing in doubles.. if you really like falco though don't let that get you down and keep at it.
