Team attack in a Doubles Tournament

This will be the second Doubles tournament that I've taken part in running (the first was a Melee tournament), and I'm trying to iron out the rules set to be as fair as possible.

I've seen that the official SBR rules have team attack on. While I think that it is more interesting to have team attack on, doesn't it give some characters (such as G&W) a huge advantage?

I can only imagine that everyone would make a Falco/G&W team and randomly throw lasers into it when they have a second to spare.

Alternatively, I could also see a Lucario/ Ness or Lucas, where the Lucario player heals his teammate every time they knock their opponents away.

While I'm not necessarily against these tactics, I am wondering if they are powerful enough to consider doing something about it. I know for one that Oil Spill is an extremely powerful move, but I haven't seen exactly how powerful it is in a doubles match.

To respond to that... Meta knight will be banned, forgot to mention that

I would prefer something more substantial than a one-liner.
I can see how having team attack off could create some stupid combos... I'm just not sure, so I'd like to learn of techniques/combos that you can do with team attack on or off.

Things like... Luigi Ladders, or G&W bucket shenanigans, or Grab hold Warlock Punches, whatever. I want to make an informed decision rather than taking a pre-determined ruleset at face-value. Is that so bad?

keep team attack on

the tactics you mentioned are good teamwork and require setups, are you saying you want to punish players for good teamwork?

besides team attack off is terrible terrible terrible and lets you just do **** like double falco and spam lasers

Of course I don't want to punish good teamwork. I just want to know if Doubles play in tournaments is actually somewhat balanced.

Double falco is a great example of why NOT to run a tournament with team attack off. Thanks a bunch!

Now my question is whether a Doubles tournament (with team attack on and meta knight banned) is in any way balanced compared to a singles tournament.

There are some strategies for character pairs that can possibly be abused.
Here are a few:
Ness + Lucas (Or any Varient of the Mother Crew.) PK Fire into PSI Magnet.
Projectile User + G&W - Bucket charging for OHKO's at 60% with DI.

Wherever you want me to be... If you're female.
No team(unless they are idiots) will let someone shoot stuff into G&W's bucket all day. It just wont happen xD.

Then again these tactics really only work if the team doing them is coordinated well, because in actuality it really does take a while for these things to happen. Of course the other team probably might have some evil strategy, so why not make your own??

Fox lazer + Peach toad = offensive spores ftw

Thanks for the input! It seems more fair to leave team attack on.

Although, I don't really understand what the dots mean in the above post... please elaborate?

You are right, having team attack off, ruins a big aspect of doubles. Funny metaknight is banned though, but really, good having team attack on, with out, the strategy would change completely. (For some instances).
