Well, not so quite teaching. But at UCCS, we have a position available to those who are interested called a JTA. It's a Junior Teaching Assistant, and JTA's assist the professor in Freshmen Seminar program. The purpose is to be a friend to the students since we're also college peers.
Had my first day today. Had a blast, but wow it's mentally draining! I also don't have that much public speaking knowledge. I did fine speaking to them, but at the end of introducing myself and getting questions thrown at me, my throat was sore and dry. Thank goodness for the water fountain outside...
It's a great leadership opportunity to take up. I can amass a gathering of people for one specific purpose, I can organize and leader a group in a team activity, and I can motivate others to do things that they don't want to. Now it's time to see if I can teach others how and why technology is important and most of all, explain a "Killer App" to them.
For those of you that don't know, a killer app is a technology that has caused change and a disturbance in normal everyday technology, causing technology to adapt and accept this new piece into it. An example would be Napster. They revolutionized downloading music. iTunes is the latest part of this technology. Another killer app would be Steve Job's iPad. This has revolutionized many business. In the hospital, nurses and doctors now carry around an iPad that's hooked up to the data network so that it is much easier to check up on patients and confirm they're doing well, enter vitals, and prescribe medication.
I'm mentally tired... time to go to bed...
