I'm nice, but people don't take advantage of me because they know I don't ever have any money or car or anything to take advantage of lol.

being nice when you "shouldn't" be nice is selfish and pretty dumb. there's something to be said for being nice to friends and stuff, but the fact is most people don't deserve your niceties, many people will take advantage of it, and the people that don't will fail to change their behaviors if you aren't not nice when the situation warrants it.

it often times becomes a self-perpetuating image because if you're constantly known and behave as the nice guy, it becomes that much harder to put your foot down and your tolerance level unjustly has to increase.

i'm a really nice guy, but most people won't see it because they're not the ones i want to be nice to :)

i think phil might be categorized as the friendliest smasher in norcal rather then the nicest. i remember from my first tournament all the way to the last one i saw him at he's been just such a cool dude to talk to. and he ***** my **** consistently. phil is awesome.

brandon is similarly incredibly friendly. i remember at some tournament i had just met him a little bit before and then it ended up we had to play eachother. he whooped me, but was incredibly humble and polite about it.

but norcal has hella friendly smashers. the deep houses two of the most friendly smashers i can think of in prodigykid and sheridan. <3 the deep [no homo]. also we have the least friendliest most friendliest smasher ever in NK.

I always try initially to gain someone's respect, because I'm awesome and I deserve and demand your respect. Being "nice" to someone for no reason, in the sense of doing random favors or flattery or whatnot, is not a way to get people to respect you, because you can't respect a tool. Being pleasant and respectful to others is though. But I've always believed that ultimately honesty has to take precedence over everything, because otherwise trying to gain others' respect is just petty manipulation, and I'm not interested in having friends for reasons other than that I am who I am. How I respond to stupidity depends on how much I potentially value that person's respect and how secure I am in the relationship. Some people just don't understand respect and reciprocity and I just try to avoid those people entirely; I don't feel like it's worth it to spend the effort calling them out on their sh
it and making an enemy out of it if they're not even going to understand it in the first place.

Of course all that crap only makes sense to the extent that "respect" is any less vague than "nice."

NK is a treasure of Norcal. It's funny because every so often he'll be like extremely nice to someone.

Green Greens made Phil mad, I'm pretty sure that proves it should be banned.

PS <3 The Deep and Surreptitiously Redundant Brian. May contain homo.

I think that there needs to be a distinction between being friendly and being nice. I'm nicer to random people then I am to my friends, in a weird way. If one of my friends says something dumb I will ridicule them. Acquaintances get ignored when they pull that ****.
