So for those of you who watched the demo with Sakurai showing off Megaman vs Mario, there was a point in the video where it appears as though Megaman and Mario trade aerial attacks and have them cancel out one another. This is similar to how ground moves trade, the only difference being that the rest of the attack animations followed through.

While we've had some instances in Brawl of aerial attacks trading with grounded ones, or certain specials, this is quite a new development. And if it is in fact true, it will drastically change how the game is played, as priority and zoning will change between character matchups.

What are your thoughts? Do you like the change? Who do you think would benefit from this? Who do you think would become worse?

It would definitely make aerial strategies more interesting, that's for sure.
Timing will just become that much more important.

I hope I'm reading this right; I decided today I'm going to start involving myself in speculatory discussion that doesn't involve the characters so forgive me if I'm unclear on terminology.

It could be awesome.
I just hope Falcon's knee doesn't clank with anything, not even itself. It would break so many memes.

Well the way Smash has traditionally worked is that when a character collides with another character in the air using aerials, the one with the hitbox furthest away from the hurtbox wins because the hitboxes overlap. In some cases they can even hit one another. So typically characters with disjointed hitboxes or really long appendages or limbs had the most advantage in the air.

I think this will place a lot less emphasis on hitbox sizes and more on character mobility. I also suspect that attacks with transcended priority will override this, and won't be tradeable, meaning that a character like Meta Knight might behave very differently from the majority of the cast. In this case it might actually prove to be a disadvantage.

Well, I would definitely like it if aerial attack can clank out each other.
