So at a tournament yesterday, we had 1 setup of Melee.

Now, I love Melee. Melee kicks ***. I used to suck at Melee, seriously. Would spam wavedashes to get around and didn't even know how to L-Cancel. I won locals due to being a really spammy Sheik scrub. <3 dsmash/fair

Now... I wanted to play Melee, I figured I'd suck. I've been reading up on Melee for a while to REALLY get into the competitive aspect.

Now, I'm better at Melee then I was 2 years ago. 2 years of not playing Melee made me better. I just don't understand how that is possible....

I was actually beating people with my Jigglypuff, and going really even with my Mewtwo after about 10~ rounds of getting used to the controls, lack of buffering, timing for L-Canceling, etc.

We were doing doubles and I was just tanking stocks, landing utilt/uair > rests after a while, ****** with Mewtwo...

I seriously don't understand.....

This was also all before my tournament, so during tourney I was trying to L-Cancel any aerial I landed with, and was trying to Wavedash with Marth in friendlies.

But I can finally seperate Melee and Brawl in my mind. I LOVE that I can do that. That means I'll be buying a memory card, so I can unlock everyone on my Melee (that I bought with my last tourney winnings) and not have to worry about my wii getting shut off and me losing everything.

After I get comfortable with Melee again, I'll probably start to enter Melee singles (or doubles, probably doubles because I enjoy them more...) whenever we have them out here.

But yeah... those 2-3 hours of playing Melee were the highlight of the tournament for me. I had more fun playing Melee then I did winning the tournament....

They follow the same rules, Brawl might've helped with your spacing, predictability and such. It makes sense since they're the same game, only with different characters, techniques, gravity, etc.

Lol, you don't have a memory card??
It's at my moms, along with my other 2 copies of Melee. ^^;

Yes, I own multiple copies of Melee.... it's that epic

I think it helped with my predictability, tech chasing/reading skills.... I just lack a lot of tech skill (many missed L-Cancels/crouch cancels, etc.)

But still..... they play so differently...

and planking in Melee is stupidly broken

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
lol. Going from Brawl to Melee transition.. takes me about 1-3 matchs for me to get adjusted..

imo.. Melee articles help so much, for the Brawl aspect but yeah. I used to be so badass with my tech skill.. idk wtf happened now.. l can still wavedash like a beast and buffer like a beast with luigi though x].

who ya main papa susa?

I main Mewtwo and secondary Jigglypuff.

I use Mewtwo for doubles, rarely singles (so far. I'm thinking of working on him more for singles) and Jigglypuff for singles and rarely doubles XD (if my partner wants to grab>rest or something for the lulz... or just needs me to rest 3-4 times in the match)

Y'know, it looked like it was to me too, but it doesn't seem to work out as well and I'm not entirely sure why not. Maybe it's because you have to get closer to the ledge to grab it, making attacks that hit below the ledge more viable. I dunno.

Let me fix that statement:

Planking with Jigglypuff/Mewtwo is so broken. (Well, Mewtwo stalling in a sense. :p)

Melee is too good to ignore.

Errrr...but yeah, good luck with that I guess. This thread leaves no room for a discussion after everything has been said. >=O

Planking is hard in Melee because of no ledge sweetspots xD Mewtwo-planking is easy to beat, just WD onto the edge. :p

But yeah, Melee is amazing. Especially once you learn how to separate it and Brawl ^^

You'd be amazed at how screwed people have been trying to WD onto the edge. I see it, I react, I get on stage, they just let me on stage. Something I was hoping for.

Also, that last statement is completely true. It took me a few months to learn how to separate it in my mind. To make sure I remember they are different games. I still slip here and there, but overall I'm improving on the separation and hope to be able to play Brawl and Melee competitively in the near future. :)

Possibly like some people said before me. Brawl kinda made you think up more "tactics", even though some of the "physics" don't apply.

I can believe something like that. Also, probably having some time away from something, gets you more experienced at it. (It happened to me too, so I can kinda relate.)

I go through melee droughts now and again and have similar improvements when I return. A mystery of the game I suppose.

Even though Brawl makes my tech skill rusty in Melee, I find that the ability to play a wider variety of players makes me smarter when I revert to Melee.

But 2 years away? lol... I didn't even remember Doc. and Young Link were in the game.
I do that with sports. After seasons end, and my down time starts I gradually get better for when I come back. I dunno. It just seems to happen.

Also, Smash G 0 D, your avatar...no.

Wow SuSa, I didn't know you were so good at Melee. And with MewTwo! He's hard for me, I couldn't really get a sense of how to control him. I didn't know that you played with Marth though. Good luck in the future SuSa! Hope to play you soon!

Cool story bro

but yeah, I haven't played melee since brawl came out and even then I never played competitively but I started just a while a go and things are looking up. I'm much better than before with little to no practicing besides one melee tournament I went to knowing nothing and play characters I knew nothing about.
