Hello, mains of all kinds! I'm trying to get Smashboard's opinion on who is MORE VIABLE - NOT WHO YOU PREFER PLAYING! Be honest - just because you main a certain character or find one more annoying to fight doesn't mean they are better! I'm asking who you think is a better character in general - and please explain why you think so if you can!

Personally, I think Link is better, he has better throws, a better bomb, a better bow, a better boomerang. And overall better attacks.

The shield changes, as well as patch after patch of buffs, make me think Link is in a better place now.

It's honestly a bit off a toss up as they both have their pros and cons. It really comes down to what your preference is.

Link is slower but a lot stronger than Toon Link. He also has more range on his attacks and can kill a lot earlier.

Toon Link is weaker but a lot faster than Link. His aerial mobility is far superior to Links and he can combo fairly easy thanks to his speed.

As for who I think is better my vote goes to Link. While Toon Link has overall more mobility and speed he really has a hard time finishing off his opponents (even with B-throw). The sword length difference is also really noticeable between the two. He's also a lot lighter which makes him easier to KO.

Toon Link can hardly be comboed thanks to his weight and his floatyness makes it easier for him to return to the stage.

Implying Link has trouble recovering? Sure Toon Link can recover easier but being floaty has its cons as well. You can be juggled much easier. Every percent counts when your light so that can easily put you into kill % for your opponent.

Just because a character can't be combo'd as easy and can recover easier doesn't make them good. Otherwise :4jigglypuff:would be much higher tier.

I wouldn't say toon link has a hard time killing. His projectiles [specifically his bomb] combo into f-air which kills at 100%, and he has a few z-air to jab reset combos that get him guaranteed kills as low as 70% on some characters for just landing his z-air.

Toon Link has superior movement and is better at getting kills. His evasiveness is also leagues ahead of Link so he'll be better in more situations and stages.

Link has better palettes and is more attractive so it's a tough call.

To save you time the overall consensus is that people find Toon Link more viable than Link. You can look for yourself here.

Link would win for free if he were voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama. Since he doesn't, he just wins by not being from Windwaker (which I have a not-entirely-rational dislike for, get over it).

Seriously though. Do NOT shield against Link.

:4tlink:
Now let me explain before people get up in arms because of the recent Shield Changes:

:4link:: +Better damage and reach compared to Toon.
+ Being heavier leads him to not be knocked out as easily and he can FF easier with his moves. Nair is good and D-Air is much better than Toon's options because of this.
+Longer Tether, Faster Arrows, Stronger Up-B, better Up-Smash, Better Dash Attack.
-Heaviness leads to him basically eating whatever attacks anyone who can chase off-stage, even with his Tether and Bomb-recovery tactics
-The same heaviness leads to him being easier to combo.
-Some of his Smashes and Attacks aren't easy to combo into each other

Toon Link has better mobility, easier Smashes to land, a faster (IIRC) U-Air, F-Air, B-Air, U-Tilt that's easy as crap to combo, better kill-confirms with his projectiles as opposed to Link's. That, and like everyone else keeps saying, better aerial movement and speed, plus his size makes him harder to combo.

I wish more people played either character so we'd have more results to go by. They're both a nice refreshing change from that other Zelda character that gets overplayed like mad.

I never said Link had a hard time recovering but both characters can be gimped while in their recoveries. I know weight does have cons but toon links tools far outpass jigglypuff and overall is a good lightweight. i am not saying link isnt good but hey its just my opinion

Better kill confirms, better mobility, not combo food, actual kill throw, better options out of projectiles, better combo game.

Toon Link.
