This thread is for general discussion on representation of franchises in Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. This includes new characters, stages, items, etc. that you would like to see in the next Smash Bros. games.

People really are overreacting about the whole Kid Icarus thing. Sakurai probably just wants to show off this stuff because it's from his latest game. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything like Kid Icarus will just take over Smash Bros.

I don't mind the Kid Icarus stuff at all, but that may just be because I don't really care how many items/characters/enemies/whatever is from a franchise as long as it's more content.

edit: I can't help but remember pre-Brawl when everyone wanted Pit, let alone a new installment. I'm totally okay with Sakurai celebrating his accomplishment. I didn't finish Uprising, so I'm not totally thrilled, but I just can't put my blinders on and call injustice. That's silly to me.

At the end of the day, I'll repeat what I keep saying - it's just easy to port Uprising stuff into Smash 3DS, the models for the Smash Run enemies seem ripped straight out of Uprising. And the game deserves the love.

And I would have been interested in Palutena joining the roster regardless of her involvement in Uprising. I may not have supported it as strongly, but people do often forget that she already was involved in Smash Bros, having a role in the Subspace Emissary. She's like, the only non-player/boss character to have a role in it.

Mario, Pokemon, and Legend of Zelda are Nintendo's three biggest franchises.

Why not have big representation of his own series?
Seriously, the only way I'll start caring 'bout KI overrepping is when it overpasses Pokemon.

This is comparing a series with maybe 30 games and has been in all past installments of smash to a series with 3 games and has only been in one previous installment of smash.(also all the stuff has been from one single game so far.)

It seems Sonic the Hedgehog and Wii Sports both beat the Legend of Zelda. But it's understandable why that isn't reflected in smash representation.

I'm surprised at how high up Donkey Kong is.

I'm legitimately surprised Sonic is above Call of Duty, and as close as it is to Grand Theft Auto. Guess I underestimate my own favourite non-Smash Bros franchise sometimes.

Some series can't have much representation, though. For example, F-Zero. That's a series with no items at all.

Two playable characters, cool; Pit got his "Zelda".

As for items and Smash Run enemies? If you're playing with either, are you seriously going to look at each item/enemy and like mentally tally how many are from KI just so you can complain about it later?

No, it's not. Uprising is Sakurai's game, but Kid Icarus as a franchise is not owned by Sakurai, nor did he make the first two (out of three) games in the series.

I'm sure the lacking series like metroid, donkey, yoshi, etc. will have a lot more representation in enemies in smash run when the full game comes out. I have full faith that smash run will have 125-200 different enemies.

EDIT: Plus, some guy from a youtube video by GameXplain (I believe) at e3 was told from a nintendo representative that boss characters will appear in smash run.
Kraid will appear plus some big alligator dude (said he was unsure if it's King K Rool or not).

Pokemon: 200+ million total sales for the series.
Kid Icarus: 3 million total sales for the series

It's about perspective. I hate when people try to make it seem like Pokemon is overrepresented, if that's what your implying. Pokemon is fine the way it is. If people complain it gets more than Mario, than Mario is underrepresented, and barring stages, it certainly seems that way so far.

I was gonna update one of my posts saying this exact thing, but my wireless keyboard was too far from my tower lol

The game isn't released, all we have is preview material. I'm sure most franchises will have several additions unseen at this point

Somebody named Sebulba_Chubaa from Reddit made the lists. I would happily make representation lists for Melee and Brawl, though, if people actually want one.

Speaking of representation, when're we getting another F-Zero character (or game)? Only remaining complaint that I've had since Melee, aside from only Samus appearing from Metroid despite numerous other reasonable characters.

And there's no reason to complain about anything being overrepresented unless it's us having two Links, or too many Marios or Mons.

I'd not count that as underrepresentation, as I consider anything from Namco to be part of the Pac Man set. Thus, I'd say it's pretty well-represented for a third party.

Would the Motion Sensor and Ray Gun still count as "other"? Or have they been fully assimilated into Smash from their origins in Perfect Dark?

Also, for whoever made those images, unless I've missed something in newer Mario games, shouldn't the Boomerang be credited to Zelda?

The Boomerang is from Mario's Boomerang power that debuted in Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS.

Honestly, I get the feeling Sakurai isn't even going for equal representation after looking at those screens.

Take Fire Emblem for example. It's a series that started out as two characters, became two characters + a stage + an assist trophy, and is now fielding four characters, another one via Final Smash, two stages, and the assist trophy. For a series that before awakening was in a steady decline.

Heck, metroid is one of nintendo's oldest all stars that has consistently done well and had regular worldwide releases and are only just now getting more exposure after relatively sparse inlusion in melee and brawl (maximum of two characters that are variations of the same girl, two stages (one being a variation on its predecessors), an assist, two bosses that are variations of the same guy, and an item based on part of Samus' moveset before now).

So maybe this is Pit's time to shine. Maybe next smash will be the revival of Starfox. Who knows?

Things like Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, and KI all feature multiple different elements that can easily be utilIzed in smash. These include iconic items, enemies, and locations. Not all games are created equally. Not all games can provide as much in a crossover. It's just one of those things that happens.

well sakurai just wants to boost his series reputation.

Sonic is more successful than the overrated zelda and kirby yet he has little representation due to him being a third party.

pokemon has a wide selection to choose from plus its the top 3 most successful nintendo franchise.
