Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Rated ? for ?

Has anyone given any thought to what kind of rating Brawl will recieve? Think about it... Melee got a Teen rating, but that was before E-10 was invented. If Melee were to get released right now, it would surely get an E-10. And nothing says "Gay Game" more than an E-10 rating.

Seriously... A lot of people don't think ratings affect the purchasing of games, but when I think E-10, I'm thinking a Sponge-Bob game, or a Godzilla game or something... I've worked at GameStop for a long time, and I don't remember seeing many "cool" E-10 games.

I hope they throw in a swear word or two, or at least make it violent enough to get a Teen rating. T looks better on a box than E-10, which subconsciously implies the game is for 10-year-olds.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but what do you think? Would the rating affect the sales of the game? What rating do you think it'll recieve?

Interesting thread. I hope it will receive a Teen rating so hopefully we will have an online play with no 5 year olds. That's why i quuit MMORPG's. Smash with swearing would be very funny.

Well um considering you can do things like step on a childs head and punt an ape I don't see why it wouldn't get a teen rating.

No, purely because its just so anticipated and part of such a unique series of fighters. It could be rated GF as in this game is only for gay *** s but it would still sell like crazy.

Apparently Sakurai is actually hoping for an E for Everyone rating,
which is why Snake doesn't get guns or his survival knife, because everyone
knows he shoots "real" bullets. Yet somehow swords and rocket launchers are OK...

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is rated E-10+, which disproves that point entirely.

I suspect the rating has an effect on the sales of some games, but for a name as huge and recognizable as Super Smash Bros, I'm sure that the rating is a null point. If anything, it would probably improve sales. Even though young kids aren't the only demographic for video games anymore, they're a huge audience for games, and Nintendo does tend to skew towards a younger demographic than Sony or Xbox. There are a number of parents out there who take ESRB ratings to heart and would keep their children from playing Melee because of its T rating, despite the PG-rated feel of the entire game. Besides, there's nothing worse than a game that tries too hard to get a higher rating by throwing in content that doesn't fit in the game. That policy blew a big hole in the Prince of Persia series. The lower rating will do nothing more than open up the audience, and anyone who passes up on it because it's rating makes them think it's a "Gay Game" is either too closed-minded to appreciate the game or just needs to play it one time to justify a purchase.

I think the reason Snake doesn't have guns is because it would be weird for them to be invisible projectiles. And I don't seee why he can't have a knife either, I mean, we already have swords. Besides, I don't think this game can get a E rating when all it is is characters beating the hell out of each other.

Especially with the screaming sounds, etc.
