Smash Ace
Casual and competitive gamers alike, we are all aware of the fact that Brawl will hit the tournament scene in due time, perhaps even topping the legacy that Melee left behind. Somehow I believe that it won't be a tough feat. to accomplish. But what I'm talking about here is not just the simple Singles or Doubles aspect of the game that we see often. Yes, Ken's the World Champion of Super Smash Bros. Melee, and he and Isai created one dynamic team that has rocked the Doubles world. But then we remember that there were far more obscure events in the competitive world. They weren't exactly titles they were after... They're going for the World Record.
I bring your attention to events such as the Home Run Contest. We've got the Ganondorf masters who'll knock the bugger out of the park effortlessly, sending the poor little guy miles after miles in an overemphasized sense. And these records and how they were performed were phenominal at that. And for some, it required more patience and timing that the pros of the mainstream tournaments may not have needed to perform at the top of their game. Multi-Man Melee? That Cruel Melee is truly torture, to those that don't know the trick. Pikachu users take notes if you're looking to crack that ancient-old hoax of unlocking Sonic & Tails, because 15 is pathetic when compared to what some dedicated people are able to accomplish by exploiting those Wire Frames. These people set records outside the true competition, but will Brawl top the range of opportunities that people can accomplish?
And now we have Super Smash Bros. Brawl; Co-op is a term that can easily be implied to EVERYTHING now. We've got it for Single Player mode (not so single now, huh? You're a couple now!), we've had the forever applied Team Battle for those 2 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, or heck...try the odds of 3 vs. 1 if you're feeling bold. But beyond that...before we had recieved nothing. And this is why Co-op is applied to anything now.
Co-op targets? Now I KNOW that in Melee, the Target test was a truly addicting method of trying to see how fast you can crack those targets. Luigi, Bowser, Ganondorf, the list goes on and on for the amazing feats that a player can accomplish these and how FAST. Competitively, people are aiming to break records all the time.
Co-op events~ Wanna know how fast you could wipe out Giga Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf on your own?
Co-op Home-Run Contests.
Mario & Sonic... Match made in Heaven, if I say so myself. But let's just skip over that because my fanboyism only goes so far before I have to return to the point of this thread.
-------
My reason for making this thread? I want your opinions on one thing. vs. matches have always dominated the competitive scene, with a slightly more minimal focus on the technical aspect of the Home-Run Contests or Multi-Man events, etc. etc.
Co-op is turning into a common theme for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which I believe will bring about the birth of Doubles competitions and Doubles records for the more obscure portions of the slamfest.
How many feet can Yoshi and Ganondorf send a sandbag flying with their combined efforts? Just how many Alloys can Mario & Sonic wipe the floor with on Cruel Brawl before their luck runs out? Is this explosion of co-op everywhere a sign of things to come for the competitive scene?
My real question to you is this.
Will the tournaments that will inevitably be hosted for Super Smash Bros. Brawl make way for some competitions such as the Multi-Man Brawl, the Home-Run Contest, The Target Test, and other world record-potential events, as they are made mainstream alongside the common vs. Singles and Doubles contests?
A part of me believes that this will happen. Do you think so?
Debate and decide amongst yourselves; it was about time I tried writing something big like I used to on NSider. Enjoy. ^^
