Codename: Unit 3000-21
Real Name: Mark Flatter
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Bionic_Manifestation
Equipment: None, or everything, depending on how you look at it.
Appearance: At first glance, you would consider Mark to be mentally insane, and simply convinced he was a robot. However, once he mechanically altered his body in any way, you’d eat those words. Everything about him seems to parody the classical ideas of an android, and that may be because he has so deeply embraced that mentality. Mark is estimated to be in his mid to late 20s, with short black hair and a blank expression at all times.
Character Backstory: When Mark was a child, he dreamed of being a superhero. He knew they were out there (they were on the news practically every night), and felt deep inside him that he was meant to be out there with them. He waited and waited for years, never to have his patience rewarded with the abilities he sought. He foolishly accepted a proposal from a man he would later discover had extreme mental capabilities that was supposed to make him everything he ever wanted to be. In a sense, it did, but the drastic changes in his body severed Mark’s hold on reality. He discarded his old life and adopted the title “Unit 3000-21”. The name originates from a song that tells the story of a robot gaining human emotions, whereas he was a human who had become robotic in nature.
Unit is the founder and leader of the group, and believes he sees the world in black in white, ones and zeros. However, he is still very much a human, regardless of how unaware of it he is. His “logic” is often influenced by emotion, leading him to often simply forget occurrences in the past that would lead him to realize he was not actually a robot.

Codename: N/A (Formerly The Big Bang, now goes by Real Name)
Real Name: Tom Bartosch
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Self-Detonation
Equipment: Walking cane, fisherman’s hat with small explosives shaped like fishing lures scattered around the brim
Appearance: A once physically fit and intimidating man, this former hero is now in his late 80’s and his body is failing him. His previously powerful frame is all but gone now, leaving him with a jaded look on the world. His right leg is a prosthetic, causing him to rely on his cane while moving about. He wears a light blue button down shirt, and working jeans. He still has an aura of pride to him, though it is hard to notice at times.
Character Backstory: While Tom was once a greatly feared superhero, he was forced into early retirement after he accidentally blew his own leg off in self-inflicted explosion. The blast also leveled a nearby building, which not only killed many innocents but crushed his confidence as a supporter of righteousness. He abandoned his name of “The Big Bang”, and went public. The media tore him apart after the incident, but after decades of seclusion he managed to let the world forget him.
Upon hearing of a new threat on the city, his desire for redemption drove him to accept an offer from Unit and sign onto his crew of significantly younger heroes.

Codename: De la Sol
Real Name: Oscar Salvador
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Solar_Radiation_Absorption
Equipment: none
Appearance: A boy in his late teens of Hispanic heritage, Oscar is not terrible intimidating from a physical stand point. He’s well built, but rather short, a fact of which he is very self-conscious of. Unlike typical fire based superheroes, he does not ever actually catch on fire. Rather, he heats the space around him to life threatening temperatures, while leaving his immediate area at room temperature. This power does have its limits, as he can only absorb so much sunlight at one time. And if he is in the dark, while he can still use any stored power it is greatly weakened. Oscar is your typical “pretty boy” singer, and dresses with what (some) people would consider an exceptional fashion sense.
Character Backstory: Oscar was an up and coming pop star in Spain when he accidentally burned the recording studio down. While no one was injured, his home country branded him a threat to society and he was forced to flee to the United States of America. Transitioning to the life of a no name foreigner was rough on him. Forced to steal just to survive, he was apprehended by Unit 3000-21. Unfazed by the sharp temperature increase, Unit arrested Oscar.
Before turning him in and after a long period of debate, Unit reluctantly made Oscar an invitation to join their team. Oscar agreed, and considers himself to be the leader of the group, despite following Unit’s every order. Oscar holds a great deal of respect for Tom, however, as Tom has served as a mentor of sorts to him during his time in the group.

Codename: Whisper
Real Name: Eva Bello
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Tracking_Evasion
Equipment: Stealth suit, general infiltration tools (ie grappling hook)
Appearance: Careful to never reveal anything beyond her gender, the only way one can describe Whisper is a master of espionage, a modern ninja. Her black stealth suit gives away no details that could identify her, be it skin color, eye color, or hair color. Even her natural height is difficult to gage due to the design of the costume.
Character Backstory: The only reason we know Whisper’s real name is Eva is because she deemed it as something that could never be used against her. Born in a very poor area of New York, all of the Bellos lives in a single apartment building in order to keep living costs as low as possible. When her father angered a local drug lord, there were completely wiped out, save Eva. Even though she was only 4 at the time, her powers had developed enough to slip out into the night completely unnoticed. There is no record of her family ever existing. This could either be due to actions taken by the drug lord to protect himself, or even by Eva herself, to eliminate any way for anyone to trace her former self.
Unit reasoned that it would be impossible to track down Eva (it’s kind of her thing to not be found), and so he allowed the media to do the hunting for him. He burned a message into the side of a building asking her to approach him, which the media jumped on as a hero gone mad. Eva caught wind of his actions, and decided to give him a chance.

Codename: Ping!
Real Name: Brian Gregory
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Deflection_Barrier
Equipment: none
Appearance: The only member of the group to embrace the general idea of being a superhero, Ping! wears a full body spandex suit (blue), a billowing red cape, and the typical mask that only covers his eyes. He is a white male in his early 20s, possible even late teens.
Character Backstory: Brian considers himself a walking joke. In a world where powers like flight or mind control exist, he is stuck with the power to have things bounce off of him. After being ridiculed by the public in his first few attempts at serious crime fighting, he vowed to become a symbol of satire, to show the world how ridiculous the concept of the superhero really was. However, the public loved his new identity. Rather than coming to their senses as he had hoped, he had pushed them further into their prior mindsets. He maintains his current costume and personality out of spite for the people that adore him now when they rejected his true self.
Unit approached Brian thinking he was the superhero Brian had tried so hard to lampoon. Brian was incredibly frustrated by this fact, feeling that the entire world was blind to his message. Only upon his meeting Whisper (who oddly enough found him hilarious) did he regain hope for society. His decision to join may have been largely influenced by a romantic interest in Whisper, but he publicly maintains that it is because he has a civic duty to assist.

BIG BAD
Codename: Absolution
Real Name: N/A
Powers: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Malleable_Bio-Mercury_Form
Equipment: none
Appearance: A mass of silvery fluid, Absolution can take on any form so long as it has enough matter to create it. If separated, it can reform. This is not to say that it is invincible, and if its cells are damaged enough they will be destroyed.
Character Backstory: In the mid-90s, scientists in a small town discovered a breakthrough in the field of human execution. After decades of experimentation, they discovered a peculiar molecular structure that seemed to attack life itself. In their testing, the victims would die quickly and painlessly from the introduction of but one of these new molecules into their blood stream. They dubbed this new method of execution “Absolution”, and the name stuck. Over time, the government shut down the program and looked into weaponizing Absolution. If they could deliver a bomb full of this substance to an area, it would guarantee a 100% casualty rate with zero damage to the infrastructure, something that was unparalleled at the time. But, as projects like these seem to go, something went wrong. The molecule was inserted into a bacteria’s DNA, in hopes that it would genetically reproduce the substance. It succeeded, it is sad to say. Some combination of the life of the bacterium and the drive of the molecule gave the combination self-awareness, and a degree of intelligence. However, it cannot be reasoned with. It knows only death, and uses its victims to breed more of itself.

The following quotes have been taken from a journal found in Tom Bartosch's house.

Talked to that Unit guy again today, and I’m starting to consider his offer. This problem of theirs, this Absolution, it’s not going away and they can’t figure out why. Entire cities have been stripped clean of their population, but that’s not what I care about. Not anymore, at least.
Unit tells me that nothing can hurt this monster, that every time you knock it down it gets right back up at full strength. He’s wrong, obviously. I’ve done my homework on this thing, and there have been very specific instances in which attacks have hurt it. Fire seems to go either way, one day causing it immense pain and the next being little more damaging than a breeze. Its taking damage from something, we just have to find out what, and why.
I’m going to keep mulling over the videos he gave me, maybe there’s more to this creature than we can see.

God it feels good to work again. It took me a while to work some of the kinks out, but once I got rolling it was just like old times! And there’s some added perks to my new looks; no one ever expects the old man to start blowin **** up! I’m careful though, I have to be if I want to keep my other leg. You know, it’s weird, I feel like the missing one is still there sometimes…
I met the other members of Units “Collective” today. Pretty sorry *** name, if you ask me, it doesn’t even have “justice” or “freedom” in it! We may as well be some **** commie hero squad. The one in the spandex, he’s a joke. Thinks it’s funny to mock what the men that died next to me stood for. …I don’t like him. Then there was that girl, she was an interesting one. She looked less human than the android did, at least until she spoke. She’s just as flirty as any woman I’ve known in the past, and she has that punk “Ping!” wrapped around her finger. ‘Course if he thought it through for 2 seconds he’d realize she never takes off that **** suit, so he’s never going to get what it is all teenage kids want. But that other boy, the solar one, he’s got potential. I can see guilt when I look at his eyes, pain he’s trying to bury under arrogance and showmanship. I can help him, make him a better hero. Heh, maybe I’ll have a legacy after all. Oh, and Unit of course. He’s close to being someone I could respect, but not there yet. He’s still human under that persona, and one day he’s going to have to face that. Until then, he’s just an idiot who happened upon tools he didn’t earn.

A breakthrough. I’ve figured this out, and we have our ace in the hole.
Absolution maintains a hard outer shell at almost all times, dropping it only to change forms. That’s when its weak, that’s when we can hurt it. It won’t be easy; it’s learned that its vulnerable when it changes. We’ll have to present an opportunity so irresistible that it can’t help itself. We’re attacking tomorrow.

It should have worked.
Several pages have been violently torn out at this point. Tom must have been struggling to find the words to say what was on his mind. The missing pages are presumed destroyed. However, their information is speculated to be of a common theme as the next existing entry, as the date is one day after the entry before the damage was done.

We almost lost De La Soul fighting that piece of ****, but me and Ping managed to distract the monster while Unit carried him out of there. I told them it was wrong to use him as bait...
The whole team is shaken up, hell, the world is.

I don’t feel much like writing right now. Things need to be fixed.

December 2, 2036

I’m tired of this shame, both the new and the old from so many years ago. I know I can kill this beast if I go all out, use myself for the fuel. Obviously I don’t plan to walk away from this one, but really I should have been dead decades ago.
After all, our profession isn’t known for its retirement benefits.
We’re staging another assault on Absolution in the morning, and I’ve told the team of my plan. Except with one minor detail changed, they think I’ll be fine afterwards. I’ve got them all fooled but that girl, Whisper. Lucky for me, she knows it’s quite possibly our only hope of winning this war, so she kept quiet.

You know, I actually kind of like these kids.
