Hello Smashboards community. With the release of Super Mario Maker near, I wanted to do something cool for the community, so I settled on this. Welcome to the first (and probably not the last) of contests hosted by me Neo Zero right here in the NintenZone. So let's get right down to it and explain how this is going to work.

Rules
  1. To Enter the contest, post in this thread. Specifically, what I'm looking for is your level submission to be entered into the Raffle. To explain, when you upload a level, that level has an ID tied to it that can be entered by others for them to play, that's what I want. Bonus points if you can take images or video of your level in action (though it won't increase your odds of winning).
  2. You're allowed to post more than 1 level, however you're only entered into the raffle ONCE. Still I encourage you to post more levels for the rest of the community to see and play.
  3. This will last from tomorrow (being the NA release date) all the way to October 1st, 2015 at 9 pm EST.
  4. While the thread title does say it's a contest, do note that neither myself nor the community is judging your level. This isn't a best of, but a community showcase. I do however encourage people to leave feedback (constructive) for levels though, what they like and what they didn't in response though. Remember, CONSTRUCTIVE feedback means explaining parts and breaking it down, it's ok to be critical, it's NOT ok to flame (I.E. The difference between "I feel like it may be a tad to difficult" and "This sucks, it's way to hard"). I will try (keyword TRY) to highlight what I think are the most interesting levels however in a video at the end of the contest. Don't forget to throw content creators a like if you enjoyed what they made.
  5. Usual Smashboards ToS apply.
So hey, hopefully by now you get HOW this works. The question is....why should you care? Well no good raffle would be complete without a few prizes.

-A 20 dollar eShop points card (Can do for UK, USA, and Canada Eh 100%. If I'm unable to get an eShop card for your countries currency if you live outside of those countries, a compromise can be made later privately)

Q&A

Q: Why not give away something Mario related?
A: Well I thought about say, an Amiibo for example, but since this is out of my own wallet and you never know how hard those can be to get, I decided to ere away from them. As for say Mario Maker itself, well if you entered this contest chances are that's pretty useless to you.

Q: Why not a contest? My level is clearly the best!
A: Because if I judge them, that leads into subjectivity. For example, I'm not huge on say Kaizo "screw you" shenanigans in a Mario level, and I couldn't promise to be 100% objective. As for letting the community judge it via likes or votes, I'd rather avoid things feeling political or people trying to cheat to secure a victory. This is supposed to be fun after all, so we'll let lady luck decide.

If you have any other questions (ones actually from you guys) let me know and I'll add them in. Good luck everyone and here's to celebrating 30 years of Mario.

I'm getting the game tomorrow so I will enter once I build some levels.

Just posting to say:

Plus, with the 9 day limit, early entries may feel gimped since they don't have a full tool set available.
This has been changed in a day one patch, apparently. They changed it so that you unlock new tools every 15 minutes of play (not sure if you have to specifically be in the editor if just playing levels counts), regardless of how those increments are spread out. You can now unlock everything (sans Amiibo costumes and the "Weird Mushroom") within just over a two hour session of the game, you don't have to mess around with the clock on your Wii U if you wanna unlock everything day one.

You probably already knew that but I figured I'd mention it just in case. This is a really cool idea either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what people make!

It took my about a half hour to make, but an hour to clear in order to upload it. It's my first stage. I've always liked Bowser's flying ships ever since I first saw them in Mario Galaxy, and I thought it would be cool to put a unique spin on it by having it take place on multiple smaller airships, as opposed to one big one, with Mario leaping from ship to ship. While it's still pretty difficult, it was originally going to be harder, but I had to remove some stuff so I could actually beat it and upload it.

I hope you enjoy! :)

I just uploaded my first level to mario maker! It took me 2 days to make and test. Anyone want to try it and give feedback? It's fairly hard though so be warned. It does have two secret exists though. Here's the code:

In this interview, Tezuka-san confirms that a music making mode is in development for the game and will be released as DLC.

There are two hidden spots accessed through hidden blocks. Both lead to doors( the ones at the end, that work as the castle's entrance) and will lead you straight to the flagpole. I can pm you them if you like.

I stayed as faithful as possible to the original, though I had to improvise a bit, and this game doesn't allow you to sync up moving blocks on a track, unfortunately. I am happy with it overall though.

Since you can't push blocks in this game, I had to come up with something new but still kinda similar for the block pushing puzzle in the original level. Instead of pushing a block onto a switch to lift up the spike trap, you have to clear a blockade of bricks using Bob-Ombs. There are two ways to go about it, but the one that seems more similar to the original puzzle is the optimal method!

Great level! You did a great job at recreating it! How did you get it to go from the green land background to the castle one though?

Using sub areas. If you drag Mario into a pipe while in the editor, you can make a sub area (basically a second level worth of space to build in), and the sub area can have a different environment theme.

You have to unlock this tool though.

I have sub areas, but when I change the theme, it will change the both. I'll try it later again and see if anything happens. I've been working on my second level, it's looking really good, and I hope to post it either tonight or tomorrow. Also thanks for the help.

No worries, and thanks for posting, I wanted to share this:( my second level, copying and pasting the details for it)

My second Mario Maker Level is up! It's called silver and gold. It has two different paths,one for gold mario and the other for silver. Try to maker it out of the mine with either metal! It's not that difficult of a stage but has it's moments. It also has some puzzle aspects to it. The Gold course is harder then silver. To access silver, go through the door at the start, to access gold grab the mystery mushroom at the start and head right! I'm really proud of how this stage turned out and would love some feedback. Tell me if you played please! Here is it's code:

I converted the first level from Zelda NES into a platformer, here: 62BC-0000-004C-7422 (and then I found out someone else had already done it).

And I made Parapa Palace, the first level from Zelda II, here: 2068-0000-004C-A842.

This one's relatively easy. Not terribly proud of the part where you ride a winged spring to the next area, as that's unnecessarily finicky compared to the rest of the course. Other than that, follow the coins and hold the run button.

Siege in the Sky

Less easy, yet at the same time more designed around a pretty environment than actual platforming challenge. When you get to the airship that looks entirely impossible to get past without getting damaged or killed, you're not supposed to get past it. Just take the door into the interior of the airship below.

On Wings of (Hidden) Block

The first half of this one is a puzzle level. The second half is a downright evil, decidedly non-puzzle Bowser Jr. fight. To leave after beating Bowser Jr., hit the winged hidden blocks and you'll be able to get to the door leading to the end of the level. (Technically there's nothing stopping you from leaving without defeating Bowser Jr., it's just totally not worth the effort to leave him alive instead of killing him.)

Some thoughts/notes:
The focus of this level was to try and incorporate SFX and orange Note Block sounds a lot, in ways that both made sense and were entertaining, as I've seen few levels that have done so, and so I wanted to try it. I also wanted to try make a level with a sense of simple story and an actual "location" of sorts. As a result I came up with a little scenario for the level to base it around.

"DJ Bowzah" is holding a party in his new musical castle, and everyone is invited - except for Mario! Bouncers, guard dogs, and security cannons are at the front doors to stop any unwanted guests from getting in, so Mario can't quite just line up with all of the Koopa Party-goers and sneak in like that. He has to find another way in. Once inside the castle is filled with all kinds of musical traps and obstacles for Mario to get through. While inside the castle, Mario discovers the real secret to this party, and decides to put a stop to it....

Also "DJ Bowzah" seems so caught up in his dancing...perhaps a bit too caught up for his own good...

The level is fairly long (I pretty much use all of the space in both areas, and I ran into a ton of limitations in terms of object count, which I had to find workarounds for, or scrap more complex ideas for simpler ones - also, you shouldn't run out of time) and moderately challenging, though I think it's pretty fair, and I did my best to bug test and leave room for mistakes (though there may be one or two small issues I couldn't iron out totally, but I did my best to compensate with giving the player fall backs with power-ups). There are also a few secrets, including a whole secret area that extends the level with a little fun area to mess around in for a bit (I call it the "Super Star VIP Room"). There is also a small "Automatic Mario" section that I did my best to indicate, which I thought fit in with the sound-based theme of the level.

I worked on this for a good few hours yesterday evening/last night, and this afternoon/evening. I would say it took at least 12 hours total to finalise.

I hope everyone has fun and likes it enough to star it (I'm pretty close to getting an upload limit upgrade already). I worked really hard on it!

A Ghost House that autoscrolls. Probably the hardest Ghost House I could come up with, hehe. In the second part there's no less then four identical rooms connected to each other via pipes and doors and multiple puzzles to figure out. If you're having trouble with it, there's a map to it in the sub-world tucked away where it can only be seen in the editor.

I made a third level, that I would like to share here: ( copying info from the other thread)

Well today, I am officially 18! And to celebrate, I made a special level in Mario Maker:


(3FD5-0000-006C-998A)

Hold Right and Run! BDay Bash!

In this level, Bowser has stolen the party! It's up to Mario to get through Bowser's now party filled castle and bring the celebration back to the Mushroom Kingdom! All you have to do is hold right and run for the exit!
I put a lot of work into this level and testing, so I would love some feeback. It's also my first attempt at a hold right level. I like how it turned out but will try to do another hold right somewhere down the line.
