Felt like contributing something to the new forum and noticed that these games (quite unfairly :p) haven't gotten a thread dedicated to them yet.

Anyway, anyone remember these Game Boy gems? Super Mario Land 2 was one of my first Mario games as well as my very first handheld Mario game (missed out on the first for quite a while).

What'd you think of them?

Super Mario Land 2 is one of my favorites! I'd love to see a colored remake of that one. Especially since it's pretty relevant to today's games since it introduces Wario and Daisy.

Super Mario Land had better music, but the graphics were just . . . . bad. Sure they were trying to make the resolution of the characters similar to a console game in terms of size in comparison to the screen, but the decorations were still pretty strange looking.

I played all of super Mario land but I didn't notice it introduced Daisy?

No, you had to rescue Princess Daisy in Super Mario Land from the alien Tatanga, in Super Mario Land 2 Mario had to fight Wario to reclaim his castle, apparently in a kingdom that is so boring he'd rather be somewhere else.

Whoops I got Super Mario Land confused with Super Mario World. *facepalm* I've been like this a lot, so you're gonna have to ignore me >.<

I've not played either Super Mario Land games but they do look like a lot of fun, especially SML 1

In Super Mario Land the final boss fires so much stuff that one of the lines in the final battle theme is blocked out virtually entirely. lol

Stamping your library books.
My uncle found a copy of Super Mario Land on the side of the road over 10 years ago, and gave it to me. It was a very bizarre game; the music was great, the enemies were really, really weird, and the landscape with absolutely strange. Easter Island world? Japan?

Today, I appreciate it for its difficulty and style.

Yeah, the games had a very awkward design to them. The stages were like nothing else we've seen in mario games.

I need to go and beat SML. I remember it being really annoying to beat but I haven't played it in so long.

Super Mario Ladn 2 was actually pretty relatable to Super Mario World, heck it was almost entirely based on it sans the plot, bosses, powerups, and overworld. Super Mario Land was just weird . . . 0_o still fun though once you got the hang of it.

The design for 2 was less bizarre which was one of my main disappointments with it (I actually liked 1's randomness/awkwardness). Still, all though 2 seemed to relate really well with SMW, it did have a touch of its own creativity that remained from SML1.

They need to make more games like the SML series. As much as I enjoyed the NSMB series since it brought back mario to 2D platforming, it just felt like it didn't improve beyond adding new powers. Level design was also weaker IMO since, in the past games (especially SMW), there were a ton of secrets and cool ways to unlock new stages (unlike the NSMB series where its basically just you getting a powerup in order to get to a not-so-hidden warpipe).
