I honestly enjoyed SMG2 a bit more than SMG1, even though both are excellent games on their own. I preferred the challenge in SMG2, as I felt the levels were more difficult. Yoshi was in the game too, and I thought he added a really nice diversity to the levels.
It also fixed some things that I felt were weak points from the first game, notably the lacking hub world, Rosalina's story, as well as the comet challenges, which were more tedious in SMG1.
