I've been looking at things and try to piece together what's the deal. Now, this may be just SSB4's general design aesthetic, but you can notice there's a few locations of sorts that form a sort of fantastical world .
These aren't locations from any specific existing game, either. Wait, hey! There's an even bigger map to pick apart.
More locations. These areas remind me of Smash Run's battlefield, too.
Speaking of battlefields...
Look at it all! What could potentially be other Battlefields in the distance, damaged structures, decorative markings, this all could be pointing to something! What do you all think of it? I know nothing's canon in Smash, but it's fun to speculate.
