I would love to see another Story Mode announced in E3. But i really want to see these improvements on Story Mode such as NO great maze, NO scrolling gimmicks, and have more enemies from different nintendo games such as zelda and kirby. I would want also see Stages that look more inspired other games. These are just my opinions, so don't take this serious, let me know down in the reply sections what do you think story mode should be more like?

We know the adventure/story mode is not going to be as grand as subspace, sakurai said so.
I like the idea of stages that look more inspired, a stage to represent each character. I hope the adventure mode is better than melee's.

Better than Melee's but not as good as Brawl's. I'm kind of hoping they do a crossover sort of Story Mode where the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule etc. are combined into one huge world and we have to explore it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Master and Crazy Hand back in the mix. Tabuu would be really nice.

I wouldn't mind an arcade mode with cut-scenes; something reminiscent of Playstation All-Stars.
I liked how Soul Calibur II did it.

Smash has done that before somewhat with Classic Mode, especially Master Hand. Maybe make the Metal fight at the end(something closer to Melee's Classic, not Brawl's) against a specific rival?

I don't mind Melee's Adventure Mode. Giving it cutscenes, small ones, work. Melee did it just fine. Nice character entrances, etc.

I liked Melee's too. It'd be nice to have it somehow personalised depending on the character you've chosen. But if not, a more fleshed out version of Melee's would be great, short and sharp with a few cool cut scenes and references.

I think I recall that Sakurai has spoken before about how he does not like the idea of cutscenes, because people who look up the cutscenes online spoil the experience for themselves, and plenty of players are apt to do that before they play the game. Bad reasoning, imo, but those seem to be the breaks.

And @ D-idara D-idara , it's not that we don't want the story to be on the scale of the SSE. It's that Sakurai has specifically stated that it will not be nearly as fleshed out as the SSE. So it's pretty safe to assume that the quality and depth of whatever "adventure" mode we get will lie somewhere between Melee's and Brawl's.

Eh. I don't really care about a story mode. I only played SSE once to unlock everyone.

I want to see a giant Metroid-esque map where there are puzzles and obstacles that only certain characters can solve or overcome. It would also be neat if you could change out characters quickly in place so that the puzzles could be designed around character or trait combinations. Solving key puzzles unlocks certain characters or inventory, which you can use to access more of the map.

I feel like having Melee's adventure would be just fine. Honestly, my attention span for playing smash against generic enemies is incredibly short, which is why adventure mode in Melee is received much better than the SSE; you travel and fight, but you never go too long without fighting against an AI with percents, and the length of it was long enough and strait to the point, same applies to event matches and classic mode.

An adventure mode in smash, to me, is just to break up the monotony. SSE failed to do that, or when it did, it ended shortly, and left a lot to be desired since the gaps between an actual fight were too wide, and the fights themselves being few and far between.

I change my mind. Adventure mode should be a quest to vanquish all the fail Miiverse suggestions, like Shrek and Call of Duty Guy. That would be a real adventure.

Even though The Great Maze was a dud for many reasons, I can't help but think back to Kirby Super Star's "The Great Cave Offensive" game and think how well that kind of map could be done in Smash Bros, especially if it featured iconic Nintendo locations linked by dimensional doorways of some sort. The Smash Run map gives me hope that Sakurai can still design labyrinthine worlds with lots of visual variety.

Sakurai has stated several times that there will be no story mode; once in an interview, another time in a daily pic. In the interview, his rough words were, "There will be a single-player campaign; however, it will not be like the Subspace Emissary." In the daily pic, he specifically said that there will be no story mode.

Anyhow, for the single-player campaign, this is what I am hoping for:

Violenceman said:
What I would like to see from an Adventure Mode is not a string of levels you run through, like Melee had, but instead have individualized stages you could choose from on a Stage Select screen. Each stage would have a length comparable to an average SSE level and would of course tie into a specific game world. 3 stages would be unlocked from the start, and others would be revealed as levels are beaten and characters are earned. You would earn rewards for beating a single stage with all the characters and beating all the stages with a single character.

This would free up the mode to contain a higher number and greater variety of stages, since you wouldn't have to worry about players having to beat all the stages in one go. You could have both a Mushroom Kingdom Stage and a Mario Galaxy stage (or even a Haunted Mansion stage) without fear of overlap. And this means stages can be longer and more complex without the player suffering burnout as well.

SSE was painfully bland and a waste of development resources and disc space. I have a feeling we'll get a Melee-esque adventure mode, which I'm fine with.

No Melee style Adventure mode please. Playing through what is half a duplicate of Classic Mode with only 2 stages that are remotely fun (Mushroom Kingdom and Underground Maze) 20-odd times is not a fun single player experience. Especially when one of the levels is literally Straight Line Zone made a reality. And especially when the only rewards are trophies, for the most part.

While we aren't getting a story mode, I hope we get a full-length single player campaign involving exploring side scrolling stages themed after the various worlds, in the Wii U version. While I love SSE and another story to go with this kind of mode would be fun, I don't mind just exploring a bunch of Nintendo worlds for the hell of it. If the majority of main series Mario games can have little to no context to their levels and overall campaign and still end up very fun, then a Smash Bros Adventure mode like that can too.

I think it's a safe bet that we won't get this in the 3DS version, though maybe they will have a Mission Mode set in the Smash Run dungeon.

Someone didn't watch the cutscenes, apparently. I personally think all post-release resources should go towards creating a big-scale story mode DLC, improving upon the SSE's flaws with even more awesome fanservice.

That way you can have your OMG MULTIPLAYER ONLY SO HARDCORE and the people who actually like to be wowed by videogames can have a decent campaign.

What I would love...? A Melee-style adventure mode with Intro-Outro cutscenes like most fighting games, and probably Rival cutscenes halfway through, c'mon, I wanna see Mario trekking through Planet Wisp or Green Hill. When I say Melee-style adventure, I don't mean the same exact damn thing every time, make each character's adventure mode have different stages in different order.

What would be some of the character's story openings? I'd like an explanation on why the trainer from Wii Fit and the kid from Animal Crossing are going out on an adventure to end up fighting giant hands in space. :p

Yes and the last boss is not master hand its Goku! And when you beat him you unlock him as a assist trophy but is deleted of the games memory after one use.

Stick with the melee style don't need a long drawn out story. A few cutscenes here and there but nothing big. That's what I'm hoping.

Well, we already saw Villager :v He was invited to the Smash Brothers tournament, there could be some sort of 'ultimate power' like PSASBR.

As much as I know it would never happen, I'd like Villager's to be that he was the chosen to save the space-time continuum's soul from being de-existed by Master Hand. :p

I have no idea what a practical one could be.

Well I think it should be better than brawl, and that is a really good idea crossing over series of Nintendo.

I want something like the SSE, but with more Nintendo properties. Less Primids, more Pokémon.

No i ment for the locations form different Nintendo series such as the mushroom kingdom and Hyrule, etc. in Story mode, sorry if i sounded like a moron.
Once again, Melee had you parading through Mushroom Kingdom on the first level, then later Hyrule, etc, all of the Nintendo worlds. Subspace did basically the same thing, with Hyrule, Skyworld, Samus, Earthbound, etc.

The only real Nintendo themed area in Subspace was Skyworld, and that's a stretch to call it Nintendo themed.

We had the playable characters, but not the areas. Very little of the areas were more than purely generic. They were slightly based upon the related series. We had vehicles from the respective franchises show up, and Skyworld, with some bosses, of course, but not much else. Most of it was completely new content.

Melee actually had most of the content straight from the franchises, and ended off with some SSB stuff.(Battlefield, Fighting Wire Frames, Metal Luigi, technically Metal Mario since it's a reference to him being a boss in the first game, just like the Giant DK fight early on in Adventure Mode, Final Destination, and finally Giga Bowser). The idea of going through long levels with any character is kept intact(and gain some kind of bonus at the end, although they worked very differently), but they're widely different.

I don't care about the cutscenes, half of a game's development resources going to pretty looking cutscenes is an abomination. All I'm concerned with is actual gameplay, and smash just isn't suited for that kind of gameplay. Instead of trying to shoehorn a platforming mode in, they should make gamemodes that lend themselves better to actual gameplay.

Good one.
SSE literally took up half of the disc. That much content took a tremendous amount of time to make, months or maybe even a year. Time that could have been spent on adding more characters, stages, game modes, game balance, a Melee-esque adventure mode, the visuals and graphics that you seem to be so fond of, etc. Instead, they spent it on bland platforming segments with pretty cutscenes to string them together to appease everyone who wanted a story mode. Nobody wants pretty cutscenes over the previously listed things.

On the bright side, it looks like they learned from their mistakes, and I'm pretty optimistic for what SSB4 will have for its adventure mode.

It won't be better than Brawl if there are no cutscenes. Hey, they'll explain stuff in the instruction booklets again (if we're even THAT lucky lol)
