I've been trying to play online but i keep getting lag spikes. I average around 50-55 fps when playing. Can anyone help figure out whats going wrong?

Heres all the information I can think of that could help.
I'm not online
i'm alone on my network
i'm connected from my computer to my router to my cablebox via eithernet
My download / upload speeds are 5Mb/s and 1Mb/s
My ping is always <100, normally around 50-60
I always play with 0 other programs open. I even use a program to close out of all my background services.
I use P64KVE .13 core 1.4 and n02 v0.5r1 (kaillera 0.9 compatible). I've been playing on galaxy and godweapon servers.
P64K runs perfectly fine when im playing offline.

Someone suggested downloading a new version of P64k. I used the one found here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=262536
I downloaded the mediafire link posted by dandan to download the 'Very Important Files - Project 64K - Updated"
Still no luck, i am still stuck at 50-55 fps. =(

Anyone know what might fix this? im dying to play online, all my rl smash buddies move away =(

EDIT: If anyone has a working version of the entire smash online play bundle that they use can play with <1 Mb/s upload speed can you direct me to a download?

I have a feeling it's your internet despite dandan saying 1mbps is enough to play on Kaillera so I'll tell you what I told you on Kaillera: Switch ISP's or get a better internet plan

At this point, we have ruled out everything that could possibly be the culprit of your lag

my internet plan's upload speed is already at the highest possible & no other ISP's in my area.

other users besides dandan have stated they play with < 1Mb/s upload speed. Are you sure there is nothing else i can do?

I've been told that I should stop trying to play smash online since my 1Mb/s upload speed is not enough.
Whoever told you 1Mb/s isn't enough was either lying or misinformed. IIRC, SSB online takes up something like 5-10KB/s. 1Mb/s = 125KB/s, so you have way more than you need. It's kind of a longshot, but you say that your ISP says your bandwidth is 5Mb down/1Mb up. You should test it yourself (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) to make sure. Even if you are running under what you should be, I still highly doubt bandwidth is the issue.

A consistent FPS < 60 usually means your hardware can't handle SSB, but the fact that it runs fine offline nearly debunks that. I notice that if I ping spoof to play at an unnaturally low delay, then that will also put the FPS at a constant rate that's lower than 60. Perhaps you're having a similar problem.

Where do you live, and what ping (and what delay) do you normally get at Galaxy? Use the ping spoof tool to set your ping higher than it normally is, enough so that you get more delay, and see if that fixes the problem.

Also, have you tried P2Ping with someone? Perhaps you'll get different results with that as well.

Are you able to run this bundle? I have had that exact problem with certain versions/builds but this one has always worked for me.

It might not work on Vista though, I know there are a couple of different problems that you can run in to.

Yeah my bandwidth is set at 5down 1up. my speed test shows something like 4.8 down .96up.
I live in South Carolina my ping at Galaxy is 66 and my delay 4 frames.
ive played with p2p and its still there. doesnt seem to change much

I tried ping spoofing and it increased my framerate overall. but its still hits times when its like 40fps. seems to be a good fix so far tho. ty

What are your computer specs? You didn't mention anything about those.

I couldn't play lag free on my old comp without setting priority to high. Try that possibly.

If you have a weak processor + vista that could be the problem.

Sorry for being off-topic but hai Hiphip. :3

And your PC is powerful enough. My old *** computer with 1GB ram, single-core 1GB processor with integrated graphics played very well.

what graphical plugin are you using, it might be glide that is too resource intensive on your gpu.
if you are using my emulator, it uses glide online (even if you have another for offline, as pj64k auto loads the plugin by filename for online play).
just change the filename of another plugin to match the file loaded and test.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here to fix it, although i do think this is the problem. I think i was using Jabo's Direct3D6 1.40 for video graphics under the settings. this might have been the one being used when i was playing offline and when i went online it autoloaded glide. I decided to try switching the setting from jabos to glide and i started getting the same low FPS while playing offline, around 40-50ish. However now when i try to switch back to jabo's i keep getting an error that forces P64k to close.

If glide is the issue here, what other plugins are available? should i download another and use that or try to fix whats going on with jabos? And exactly how do i rename the plugin? There are like 3-4 different files named Jabo's Direct3D..xxx...

change the file names to replace the one currently used with the one with the tmp postfix.

Just rename your Jabo 3d6 to what the glide plugin is named now. Literally right click on the file name or w/e and manually retype it, and put a (1) or (old) at the end of the other one.

Who is your internet service provider?

If nothing's changed over the past five months, and Kaillera still uses the exact same, horribly inefficient architecture, then no amount of hardware or software fiddling will solve your problem.

Sounds to me like you've got a bad case of packet queuing.
