I just got permission from Game Domain in Stephenville TX to host a Smash Brothers tournament. Now this is still pretty much in the planning process, but I already have some people that agreed they would come.

Make any comments you like. Discuss weather you think you will go, if you think you could bring a TV, or if you have a recommendation when to hold this tournament.

Update: 8/25/07 - Date & Time Confirmed Below
Though this can be changed if majority agrees the current date and time is:
Saturday, September 15
4pm - Finished (10pm at the latest)

Update: 8/26/07 - Location, Rules, and Entry Fees
So I was able to talk to the manager again. I wrote down the address of the store and discussed rules, tournament fees, and prizes. Here is what I got.

Address:
1348 Wst Washington St.
Suit #9

Phone Number:
(254)-968-GAME

Entry Fee: $0 or $5
(The reason behind the possibility of no entry fee is because the manager disallowed me to give out cash as the tournament prize because of it's relation to gambling. If I can pick up some good prizes or even a Wal-Mart Gift card, I can give out that, but we'll have to see...)

This Entry fee will cover for a singles tournament as well as a "for fun" doubles tournament.

Rules:
You'll find the rules are pretty much standard MLG stuff

Singles:
- Double Elimination
- 4 Stock Match
- Stock Time - 8:00
- Best 2 of 3 games
- All Characters Permitted

- No Glitches permitted that may cause freezing or do not permit one or more players to move (ie Ice Climber's Freeze glitch). Doing such tactics purposely will cost 2 stocks.

- No stalling tactics allowed such as Jigglypuff's pound or Peach Wall bombing, though they may be used to recover. Doing this in order to stall time will have you stopping immediantly, even if it means you losing a stock

-Random Stages: Battle Field, Final Destination, Kirby's Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story

-Counterpickable Stages: Jungle Japes, Corneria, Mute City, Rainbow Cruise, Poke Floats, Brinster, Kongo Jungle 64

-No Stage can be played twice in a set

Setting up a Game:
(First Round)
1.)Both players may ban one stage each to not be used for that particular set (randoms can't be banned)
2.)Both players select characters. Double blind pick may be requested
3.)Both players either agree on a stage or pick random.
4.)The First Round begins

(Following rounds)
1.)Loser announces the next stage
2.)Winner picks character
3.)Loser picks character
4.)The announced stage is picked and the round begins

Doubles:
-Friendly Fire: On
-Stealing lives is permitted

- All stages are allowed from singles except for the following changes

-Random Stages: Rainbow Cruise, Kongo Jungle 64
-Counterpickable Stages: Great Bay, Mushroom Kingdom II
-BANNED STAGES: Fountain of Dreams, Mute City

I HOPE YOU ALL COME AND ENJOY IT HERE AT GAME DOMAIN

Is it spelled 'Stephenville?' If so, it looks sorta not way too far from DFW and Waco, so you might get a few players from those areas. You might want to include the names of nearby large cities in the title so they'll know to look here, at least once you get a date down. I'll go and probably bring a carload of people with me if you can get enough people to show up that aren't, you know, DFW and Waco. How many participants do you have lined up at the moment? And any thoughts on the entry fee?

And one more thing. I don't have anything to record matches with, so if anyone has such equipment, I would be very delighted if you bring it over.

Theres kinda a lack of feedback... I guess this really depends on who all wants to attend. I wish more people would reply.

Wal-Mart gift cards can't pay for my gas...

or my medical bills if I meet up with some angry gay bashers.

Me and my roommate may be interested in going. Saturday is a good day for me because I work on Friday. How long does it take to get there from Waco?

Why is Icicle Mountain not banned?

88.2 miles - about 2 hours.

As for Icicle Mountain. Yes it is banned. Any stage that I didn't list for counterpicking or random will not be allowed for the tournament.

EDIT: Btw, if anyone still had the idea of bringing a TV, you can bring one, but please bring a relatively small one (about 20").

I'm going to remind everyone that the tourney is THIS Saturday. If you get lost in Stephenville call Game Domain [(254)-968-GAME]!

Here are some google maps of popular locations. I'll try to find some from my cousin if possible though.

WACO:

Dallas

Abilene through Eastland

General Directions: It's on the main street of Stephenville, Washington St. Near McDonalds and on the same street as WalMart (but no where actually near WalMart).

Tournament will start at 4PM. Show up earlier if you want to play some friendlies.

How much is the Walmart gift card going to be?
If I have to go buy them myself, they will be $30 and $10 for 1st and 2nd. I don't necessarily rack in a lot of money. I really wish I could just hand out money directly from the pot.

Last random note: Stephenville is big on Pokemon so if you feel like bringing DP, go ahead.

EDIT: ...or instead of buying the cards before the tournament, I may be able to take some of the entry fees themselves and go buy the cards. That well it will be much more like having a pot. Still, I will have to clear this out with the manager.
