State of the Falcon Boards

Maybe you've noticed, but I've been largely absent for the past few months (years?), but I'm back. Actually, excuse me - FINALLY...

We've already seen signs that this year, 2012, could really be the Year of the Falcon. Everywhere I look, we're winning big. I want to do my part to realize Captain Falcon's potential in today's metagame by offering strong vision and leadership to the Falcon boards. Here I'll discuss where we are, where I want us to be, and how I want to get there.

State of the Boards
The social nature of our community keeps discussion strong, and there seems to be a lot of traffic to staple threads. I don’t have any stats so I’m not sure if it’s more popular than, say, the average Fox discussion, but we always have a strong focus on the topics at hand, and apparently a strong desire to improve.

I think that our largest weakness, though, is that we spend a lot of time either being social or discussing well-covered territory. As with all char-specific boards, there is actually a large need to discuss specific matchups and stages. With only 2 large strategy threads (S2Js and mine), it becomes difficult to not answer the same questions over and over.

Vision
The Falcon board's primary purpose is to document information regarding CF fundamentals, including frame data, mechanical capabilities, and strategy. Its secondary purpose is to help new CF mains ramp up and learn fundamentals. The cornerstone to success is our community, and communicating well and staying on the same page is paramount.

Improvement Plan
First, I want to be more present on the boards and moderate discussion much better. For the first few months I'll only be issuing warnings for small violations, but ultimately we want to be social in our social threads, and stick to the topic at hand in our strategy-focused threads.

Second, I want to enable that vision by changing the structure of the boards. The video discussion forum will both promote evaluation and understanding of proven strategies, and enable analysis and feedback for new player videos. New CF matchup discussion threads will be created (one at a time, to test demand) to focus discussion and thoroughly document CF best practices bit-by-bit. We will also have a dedicated discussion thread that will be moderated much more loosely.

Feedback
As always, let me know what you think about these proposed changes. This thread will be live and accepting feedback until we come to a consensus, and then we'll move to a different thread for ideas and suggestions. I hope to update the State of the Boards monthly or quarterly.

Are you goign to move the video critique and current Video archives created by SlimNasty into the thread? seems like a good start.

And then probably next step would be creating a new thread and start throwing in videos archived properly using the format that we all agreed on. (separate by player first, then matchup then by date)

I think you should keep the video critique thread for now (if just for the sake of allowing me to stay subbed to one thread hahaha)

As it is that thread isn't too cluttered and people generally get responses
The rest of the subforum can be for posting other vids or something

We're absolutely going to keep it, we just created it! It's going to be populated tonight. I want to move video threads there, and start using it as a hub to critique videos, and to centralize discussion around a video per week.

Scar, I love the videos section. It simplifies everything and makes it so that people's vids don't get lost in the critique thread.

Just have to populate it. I don't think I'm going to a tourney Saturday so I could put in some work on the boards / blog.

You click on the forum you want to enter. Up where "Thread Tools" would be if you were in a thread, you'll find "Forum Tools." Click on that, then subscribe.
